Default Is firearm target practice is legal on crown land?

Hello There,

Can someone, please, confirm if target practice with firearm is legal on crown land in AB? Please do not guess if you know for sure let me know. Point me to a government website where I can get this information. I am planning to take my 12 years old for hunting first time and would like him to do some target practice before actual hunting.

Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.

Yes it is as long as you have a safe backstop.

And it is properly zoned for shooting.

I agree with Nait, the OP needs to be more specific about where the "crown land" is. Target shooting is indeed completely legal on a lot of crown land. There could be exceptions though, for example, occupied leased land. Crown land could also be a park of some sort that has restrictions.

If you have a pal or pol you are good to go. You can not shoot in camp grounds or in populated areas or from the road. Head back in to the bush, find yourself a spot, and go for it. Just be sure of your backstop.
