Default September 1 Today

Yea I know some hunting areas opened today , but on this date 74 years ago, Germany invaded Poland and we all know what followed.

This is a one minute silence in Warsaw to mark the Warsaw uprising,,, IMO, we need to do things here to pay tribute in remembrance. Do you think everybody would stop what they're doing, like in this short video?

As bad as ww2 was, it defined who we are today. I wonder where we would be today if it never happened?

And the USA and allies shipped goods through Iran at that time.
I wonder how the rest of the Middle East viewed that war.
Little bits of insight that we never learn about. Hmm.

Amen to that ^ !

One of the many sad parts about the Warsaw Uprising in '44, was that the Russian army was at the gates of Warsaw at the time. They knew the uprising was happening, but intentionally held back and offered no help, because it didn't fit in with their 'political' agenda; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw_Uprising

Damn the Germans ... and damn the Russians too!

I asked my mom a moment ago what she remembers when Germany got to her town. She said she was too young to recall any particular moment other than things becoming very desperate. Years later her brother told her that the day they arrived, all the teachers from his school and the doctors and other authorities were ordered to the town square where they were all shot in the head from the front.

Definitely defined my life and my wife's. both of us were born in post war Germany, It made us what we are and how we ended up in Canada. Germany might have started the war, but we sure paid the price.
Rosselinis film, Year Zero is about as close to the truth as you can get.

Default Germany for others

I was talking to my neighbor yesterday, one of few to actually cross the river into West Germany from the east, he remembers most of the dates and actions taken there. Sadly remembers the people that even helped him get out, were not ever heard from again. He went back a few years ago and others remember the people but there are no family member left to carry on.

That's a bleak picture. My grandfather had strong opinions on the subject of postwar Germany.
