Default Day trips

Just trying to figure out some nice day trips to take this summer. What is everyone's favorite places to go/ do? Was thinking of driving around to check out all the small town attractions like the veg Easter egg, mundare sausage, etc.

If you are headed that way pick up a tour guide for small Ukrainian Churches -- Mundare and points east have lots of really small old churches and you get to see some great country.

Another nice tour is the drive down and walk about to see the murals in Bentley

Down to Drumheller -- Atlas coal mine, Horseshoe Canyon - this is an over nighter to get all the spots in.

Victoria settlement by the north sask river. The old fort trail in Edmonton was part of the trail that went to the settlement. You can still drive a lot of the trail along the river. Peaceful place to have a picnic lunch. There is a video to watch on the link.

Mount butte overlooking Battle lake is a nice daytrip. A fun few minute climb up the south face. On the west side of Mount Butte is a protected area where rare orchids grow in the low land.

At Innisfail along QE2 has the discovery park. It has a variety of wildlife to view and, sort of neat, the big grizzly bears that are in the movies are kept there. Used to be one there that was 13 or 14 hundred pounds.
They have some adventure packages where you can interact with some critters too.

Yamnuska just got closed, too much work for the EMTs to keep up with.

Come to the Pass... in one day you can:

Cliff dive
Mountain bike
Tour an underground mine
Sample two real kick arse breweries

Find a huge flat rock on the slide and do a picnic.... n watch them silly pikas..

Hike the various back country community trails... VERY scenic... there’s benches too... see bears n deers n coyotes.

But don’t come here for the fishing

There are no fish her.... stay away from the rivers with your rod. Just trust me.
