Default 25-06 barrel length

I have heard that to really get the performance out of the cal you need at least a 24" barrel. Any experienced guys have feedback on this? I have been eyeing the 25-06 for a few years as my next cal. While I love my Sako in 300WM and would love to get a match in the 25-06, it only comes with the 22 7/16" barrel. Would I be losing a lot of the terminal performance, or would it be marginal with the slight loss of velocity? Any input appreciated.

The 25-06 with a short barrel will produce more velocity than a smaller 25 caliber cartridge with the same length barrel. As bullet weights increase short barrel velocity lose will drop off too. If you like the gun buy it.

All the reading I have done says the same, 24" is best for a 25-06...but saying that the 25-06 I had was a Sako Finnlight and I loved it. Dont let the barrel length stop you from buying a great rifle.
