Scope selection for my .308
Im going to be getting a .308 in the mail, mostly going to be for target shooting but maybe a little hunting also. Im getting a remington 700 with a heavy stainless barrel and the adjustable trigger.
For this rifle Im not going to cheap out on the optics. So, in the price range of 800-1600$ with an illuminated reticle, adjustable turrets with good magnification..around the x25 mark..
I looked at a few different models today in store, but not many of these high end scopes in stock at most locations.
Suggestions, experiences, opinions?

The higher end of your budget puts a gently used Nightforce on top of your rifle... No illuminatlon tho.
You can get a nice Leupold for around $1200-$1400... Dunno if they have any illuminated target models tho as I don't much care for there product.
Vortex viper comes to mind... But They can be hard to find in exactly the exact model you want.
Zeiss conquest target is a possibility but not illuminated.
Sightron is an option but not illuminated... Actually I think they do have an illuminated target optic but I'm too lazy to check there web site for you.
.....does that $1600 include rings and a rail or just glass? A 20MOA Farrel rail will set you back $120ish... Rings another $60-$100 depending on what you want.

Illuminated reticles are highly over rated.
I used tried them on several scopes, and don't use them even on the ones I own that are illuminated.
How far do you plan on shooting your targets?

I realize Hensoldts are more than your $1600 budget but Tactical Imports Corp. has some pretty good deals going right now.3-12x56 $2800. 4-16x56 $3050. 6-24x72 $3300 all in canadain funds.

I think its a neat feature, will I use it all of the time, I doubt it.. but it is cool lol
its a new rifle so it will be sighting it in, and working further away from 100 yards.. I dont plan on doing any competitions, but id sure like to eventually get out to 1000

I use a nightforce target version 8-32 x 56 mm with illuminated reticle, on my 338 edge . cost me $1300 bux. has 50 moa internal. so that's all I know really about illuminated reticles, ive never used it in a shooting /target situation.

Sightron SIII in 6-24X50MM LRMOA. 100 MOA vertical adjustment. Great optics and mechanics. About $1000.00. No illumination, use your headlights!

yeah exactly. its a target model though , not one of the nxs -tough as nails /military grade scope, but for target work yeah its good. and im not sure if it has the 0 stop options , but in a target shoot you write down notes/keep track of your adjustments anyhow. only has 50 moa though, so definatley youll need a tapered base, I have a 30moa under my 338 edge.
hey off topic here but theres a dam spell check on my AO screen at moment, really annoying me. is it a computer thing or an AO thing ,anybody know how to turn it off? never had it on b4.
