From what I have seen the sheeple are going nuts over the new 17 Win. however the 17HMR is still very popular.

Even though I handload for .223, I still prefer shooting gophers with my .17 hmr. Would like to learn more about that 17 wsm that just came out, but I think it will take the back seat, at least until it catches on and is chambered in more rifles.

They are the same cartridge, the 17 winchester super mag (I think) is the newest rimfire round by winchester. supposed to launch a 25 gr bullet at 3000 fps if I recall.

Default 17 hmr

I don't plan on parting with the 17 any time soon..... Unless gophers become extinct!

If they made a nice, accurate semi auto, I'd buy one. Not much it can do compared to a 223, might save a little, not much on ammo. 22lr still rules for cost though. Been thinking about a 9mm for dirt rats lately...........

hey just looked up on the web about that 17 wsm, and watched a vidoe of a guy testing out the proto type ammo for it in a really nice single shot win model 1888 lever gun or something. anyhow wow this looks like an awesome little round,a hmr on steroids.

20 gr at 3000 fps or a 25 at 2600 .

looks like winchester did it again......too early to tell but it seems like it will take off.

price of the shells though....... so easy to shoot them 17s off in a hurry.

Hey ABB:

You going to give one a test drive?

Or do you already have one broken in?

Just curious where you priced this and did you get any kind of lead time on these new rifles?

I think I may be adding one to my collection.

Thanks
Hilgy

Volquartsen is working on prototypes, engineering and testing for a semi-auto chambered in 17 Win super mag.

If I were to go out and buy a gun today it would be chambered in 17HMR. Something in a bolt with a heavy barrel. Lately I have been lusting after the Savage with the Boyd's Evo stock, and stainless spiral flutted barrel. It would compliment my 22 very nicely.

I've seen the job the 17 does on gophers and I want in on that fun!

This will be interesting. I'm wondering if anyone else might manufacture a version in the near future. The ballistics chart in Field and Stream impressed me.

I had a call asking if I could rechamber an HMR to the new WSM round (I have not seen a chamber print). I told him to keep an eye on the pigs at a nearby farm and, when one of them takes flight, give me a call. Not one of the projects that interests me! Leeper

At any rate, any of those .17 cal rifles in rimfire or centerfire make one heck of a mess. Depending on where you hit them, you can make 'em do wicked flips in the air It's the simple things in life...

I have bought many different calibers of rifles in the last five years and my CZ 453 17 hmr has had the biggest bang for the buck! Its just a plain fun.

With current powder and ammo shortages I predict getting a 17wsm and finding ammo for it will be at least 100 times worse than things were when the 17hmr came out.....some of you may remember that....
