Angry Closures

http://www.westernwheel.com/article/...ekend-20170906

The funny part about all the bans and closures is that it's still OK to go and drive around on an ATV to look at ducks.....

Give them some sympathy for what is happening and they may reward us in long run. Out here on prairies knock on one hundred farms you get run off on 10. And 70 say no. Ten say F off Four say someone else has it first and if your lucky one says yes. So has hunters we should stand by the people that live in these area's and do our part with great pride and give a little sacrifice not always take take take. So you lose your $3 draw app it's not the end of your world.
Lets keep the discussion to forestry.

Many people only hunt public land.

I do feel for somone who has wasted 10-13 years of priority points to get a tag this year. Talk about chit timing.
Call it what you want, if there was genuine concern they would have shut the area down prior to one of the busiest weekends of the season. In general, it is safe to say hunters have conservation in mind more so than the general public, and given that it is safe to say that it should have been shut down over the weekend, and reopened for the hunting season. I wouldn't call it a conspiracy so much as a blatant slap in the face to a specific user group we know the current government is not friendly towards.

Default minister

Writing the minister is a good option, i would hope she's open to hearing voters concerns?

The only thing the minister is open to is banning of ATV's and making new parks.

I call it overthinking and taking offence where none was given. A blatant slap in the face? Yeh, OK.
How about they waited as long as they could before taking the measures that I think most people, including hunters, probably agree with?
Believe me, this has really upset my hunting plans also, but I don't take it personally. It's a serious situation, and something had to be done. Get over it.

That was kinda the jist of my posts too, if it were a true concern for public safety the forestry would have been shut down a long time ago. But there are some sheep that can't see the transparency of the government's agenda, and it has nothing to do with oh wowaz me and not being allowed to hunt.

To be clear, I agree that our current govt. appears to have a bit of an anti hunting agenda. But not every decision they make is based on an anti hunting agenda. If hunting season didn't start for another month, I think they still would have restricted access the way they have.

I don't think there is ever a perfect time for announcing a closure. Someone will always be on the bad end of the stick. And yes I agree they should let you surrender your tags and restore your priority. After all back during the application process this was unforeseen circumstances

I don't see it as being up for debate. They could have closed it Friday or Saturday and eliminated a lot of risk. They had all the signs made already. To me it is pretty clear that they did not want to risk the fallout of banning the general public. Just my opinion.

Edit - I do understand that closing the area down to everyone cuts a lot of risk, but the fact that they are targeting a specific user group is what makes me call BS.
Yep it's too bad. You going to run for office and represent us?

It's supposed to get cooler with rain next week. I can't see this restriction lasting long.

Don't think the rain next week will have too great affect on things up there. I wouldn't be surprised if things don't open until the first snow (which could be tomorrow!HAHAHA)

Minimum closure will be 24 or 28 days I believe will need quite a bit of rain to change that. I think it could end up taking until End of October to open if we are lucky. May aswell make new plans.

Darn, it took me a while to find this post. Should be easier...
... It's a pity that some hunters picked this year to use up years of priority points for a once in a lifetime hunt. Who knew? My SIL has waited 13 yrs for a chance at a Trophy Antelope, and this year he was awarded a tag.
It would be nice if he could at least get his priority points back for a future draw, given the situation, but I doubt that will happen.

Now wouldn't that be interesting.

I can't even garner the agreeance of so called "outdoorsmen/women"; I don't think I would do well in the real world of politics.

Might have to change your name though, people don't like change for the most part. Newview may not fly. Haha

Curious where the very specific 24-28 days comes from?

Forestry officials at the pincher creek wildfire permit station that is set up at the fire hall told us it would have to rain for four consecutive days the lift the closure order.

A nurse I was talking to 2 days ago was camping up by Rocky and they were allowed a camp fire with a visible forest fire not that far away. When they asked the CO's why, they were told that they asked the provincial government to put a fire ban in and they wouldn't!?! No idea what they are thinking..

If yer in the terlet yer wet all the time. Now if you're in the SW........there is NO significant rain (if any) in the forecast. Raining in non-closure areas doesn't fix closures.

Still closed. Don't expect to reopen till we have some significant snow or rain. I'm not very hopeful that we'll have any hunting this fall on the public lands.
