Default Shipping a firearm to the U.S.

Has anyone ever shipped a firearm to the U.S. for repair or custom work? If so, who did you use to do the shipping?

I have not but I think you could find out who best to use by contacting the place you are shipping it to . Iam thinking UPS will be the way to go and if you can use the original box .

Default shipping to USA

You might be able to ship a firearm to the USA but getting it back could be a problem due to 9-11 changes. There was a company back East that was handling import-export items(advertised Canadian Access to Firearms)There are gunsmiths in Canada that do exceptional custom work some even build guns for the US Military.

There's no trouble getting in there and back...all the paperwork is done...I'm just having trouble actually finding a carrier that will ship guns across the border.

LOL...now that would make getting it back complicated.....the permits don't allow that. It needs to be shipped from Canada to the U.S. and then shipped back.

Default shipping USA

Hi Sheephunter
Where do you get the permits? We were purchasing IOR scopes from the States and the dealer told us he can't send or receive now we are stuck with scopes that need repair.

I have no idea about scopes. I'm simply returning a rifle for some warranty work. I contacted U.S. Customs, ATF and Canadian Customs to get all my info. All were very helpful.

Boy, that is a good sign! Scopes that need repair already. I'll pony up big dollars for an IOR now.

Actually, I'd buy a Nightforce.

I've used USPS and Can post for shipping firearms from the U.S.
I would think it would work the other way.

Ya, that was my first thought too but they won't do it. Not as easy as one would think to ship a rifle south...ugh.

Ya kind of makes you sick when you pay $1500 for a scope and it breaks. One the front adjustment lens came loose one stuck on 24x the other will hold zero but getting adjustments with help from recoil.Had problems with one NF and some other brands. Have two older weavers and a sightron that have never failed one weaver mounted on a 378.

Check out( valdada.com ) IOR scopes are said to be on par with zeiss for a lot less money. We have three with problems but other shooters say they work great some on 50's.I have several that really are good scopes.Reticle etched or photo engraved t-3 lens coating (Carl Zeiss) and schott glass.

Ok, never heard of 'em before. Think I'll stick with my Leupy tho, don't have to ship too far if it ever needs warranty work.
