1st question....what are you looking at hunting? If you are new to firearms, you need a gun you are comfortable with to shoot and practice. A rimfire 22 is a great start and you can shoot endless amounts of ammo cheaply and it builds up your skill...Personally, I would look at a bolt action 22 lr rimfire (22mag/17hmr mag) can be expensive, if it is just for plinking. if you have a budget for a Henry, a CZ is a good choice or a savage with accu trigger..
I look at shooting/hunting like golf....you need multiple clubs/guns for different situations.
A small 22 centrefire is great for shooting but limited to hunting varmints. A small deer gun, like a 243 or a 30/30 are great starts and I enjoy shooting both calibres. For the heavy game, 270-308-30-06 - 7mm-08 are great choices..and then finally you can build up to the heavy magnums, 300win mag, 300rum etc. They are not as enjoyable to shoot as they have heavy recoil.
and then shotguns for birds....
both shooting and hunting are great sports and, as anyone, can lead to a serious drain on your bank account....but fun! Reloading is next!!!
enjoy, all the best of luck and let us know how you make out or if you have any questions....R
