Exclamation **2017 Bear Bait Barter and Ideas Thread**

There's been some chatter via PM and text this year since MID JANUARY. Cabin fever has set in and seems like some folks are chomping at the bit to start their stockpiles.

The Bad News: Walmart has ceased to supply my contact with mass quantities of dog food this year. It was a huge money saver for lots of guys. We're gonna have to think outside the box and hope to acquire some.

The Good News: We had calls during winter for loads of bread. We didn't have a place to store it so we turned it down. We are still on their radar and have a great relationship with them. Once we say "GO" those calls will pick up.

Purpose:
If anyone has a resource that they are willing to share, feel free to post on this thread. That's what it's for. I have major sources of bread, oats and grease (basically all I use+beaver carcasses). Some trapper may have a ton of beavers. Other mass supply cheap or free bait barrels etc.... Let's look after each others wallets and use these as trade chips or give-aways. We all get the benefit of lower costs, and best of all- the relationships that come with dealing with one another. I personally have become acquainted and even established good friendships just through swapping bait with folks. Proof: I'll be baiting with ole Hugenuge this year. We've become good friends as a result of bear baiting.

I'm sure this will start slowly but gain momentum as the bears awake. Due to our 4th child being born this year, I will be starting to bait/hunt last week of April. But due to multiple requests, LETS DO THIS!

If it's barrels a guy needs you could try contacting a PetroPass or Millsap distributer. They usually have a ton of empty barrels in their possession and I have never had an issue calling and asking if I could grab a few, usually they are more than happy.

In Edmonton, Weston bakery sells a full pickup truck load for $5 or a " bread stack". They're located near wholesale foods club and open I think Wednesday and Saturday. Need to find number.

I have an unlimited source of cut up cow bone and meat scraps. I'd be looking to barter some cow scraps for beavers or popcorn?? Also willing to help out someone who doesn't have a lot of bait source and get you started.

Default Source for bait barrels

Hey guys for metal bait barrels, check out Bee Made honey in spruce grove. They have detachable metal lids, smell like honey, and best of all cheep in price.

I just build relationships with some of the fastfood restaurants managers i go to and they fill my 5G buckets for me when they change their fryers. Drop off and pic up a few days later. usually get 4 buckets per spot.

So to build those relationships you basically eat as many burgers as Randy from trailer park boys...
