Sherwood Park Fish and Game Association Fall Hunter Shoot

Time for shoot #2! SPFGA members' shoot set for Sunday, August 21, 2016. Registration is at 8:30AM with shoot starting at 9:30AM. Two rounds of 21 targets with lunch concession. All targets to to be of a hunting situation; "Should I take the shot or not?" Several archers joined the SPFGA to compete in the shoot last May. Bring your hunting setup for some great practice for that season that's not too far away!!

Is this a members shoot only as well?

What kind of items at concession?
Sounds fun but I may need to pass until next year.

Burgers, pop and hot dogs were at the concession last time if I remember correctly. I believe registration fee is 10 bucks. But you have to be a member of Spfga! The May shoot was a great time! With the ABA scoring, it really makes you think about the shots. Also, a miss, can actually help your score, over a bad shot! I'll be there with my daughter. Should be lots of fun!

Yes, still members only shoot for this year. From response to two shoots this year, looks like may be worthwhile to possibly open to other archers next year. Still taking "baby steps" to running an actual open shoot. Concession is pretty simple; hot dogs and water/pop. Entry fee is $10. Two rounds of 21 hunting scenario targets. Couple of "never-seen-before targets"!?? Fun time is free!!

i walked the course (which changes constantly) earlier this year and i was amazed by how good it was.

if i felt like spinning my broadheads off i would be there shooting for sure

Come on out! The rest of us are spinning our broadheads off and giving the course a try(for sure changed from the May shoot!) Good chance to see how good you really are with your hunting bow.

No problem! We're really enjoying the new archers that are starting to appear. SPFGA hasn't been too active in the archery department for awhile and it's really great to see the number of new archers that are getting bows and practicing now. See you at the shoot!

My son is 8 and can hit the bag target everytime at 20 yards and can probably hit it 50% at 30 yards. I would like to bring him for the experience but want to make sure we don't offend anyone when he needs to search for his arrows. At 8 he thinks he is second coming of Fred Bear already and who am to tell him he is not.

Definitely bring him. If people get offended by him then THEY can stay home

. If I go it would be my first 3d outing and I'd gladly join a group with you two. I may need him to help find my arrows haha.

Don't even worry! He can shoot from as close or far as he is comfortable. It is all about the fun and the practice.

I've been bringing my kids to 3-d shoots off and on for the past 5-6 years, the archery community is very welcoming to young archers. You run into some guys who are more competitive, and would not like to shoot with inexperienced archers, but that's the beauty of choosing your group to shoot with. I'll be there with my 11 year old daughter, you guys can shoot with us if you like. I'm getting her a new bow when I get home from work next week, it will be her first time shooting with a release, not to mention, I haven't practiced as much as I'd like to, so I imagine we could be looking for some arrows as well!

I brought my 4 year old to the first one and to all other shoots ... she loves it and I'm sure I haven't ****ed anyone off yet by bringing her ... if I have oh well sucks to be them lol

No age limit, as long as parent keeps things safe. Our star archer in May was Brianna, four years old and she shot both rounds of 21 targets with her stick bow. She "stalked" most of her animals so she wouldn't scare them away!

For now, everyone participating must be a member of the SPFGA. I believe the family membership is $70. a year with $10. one time fee for gate card.

Who's worried about looking for arrows?? This is archery. Sometimes, more often than not, we MISS!! That's the name of the game. This club sees archery as a "fun" time to spend with fellow archers and "newbies" that are starting out. We have all the time in the world to look for arrows BUT REMEMBER NOT TO STRAY INTO THE SHOOTING LANES THAT MAY BE ON EITHER SIDE OF YOU WHILE LOOKING!! The other plus is that our targets are not taken down after the shoot so there's also plenty of time to look again for your arrow after the shoot.

What bows are you guys getting for the 4 year olds ?
I've been looking for a little bow for my daughter but most are too big or are too hard for her to draw.

I bought Bear archery's first shot .... but thinking now that she has some muscle I'm going to get her a diamond atomic

No one was offended by your daughter for the first shoot I'm sure. Pretty awesome to see you bring her out. Looking forward to the next one. Can't wait until my kids are old enough to come out!

Still time to get a general membership for the archery shoot on Sunday! Hope to see more members out this time. Put down those rifles and give the pointy sticks a try. It's a lot of fun and this shoot will be challenging like the last one but with stranger critters!

I emailed my membership application yesterday. Do I just show up with $10 for registration and cash for concession?
I realize it's just for funzies but what are the rules on equipment etc. (Too lazy to search for other threads right now) I've got a 5 pin tek hybrid; will I need to use it as a fixed pin sight?
What should I bring? Just binos, bug repellent, bow and arrows?
Getting excited. First time for 3d and anyone I've talked to about it seems to really enjoy it

Don't worry about equipment, if you hunt with it...it will work! No broadheads of course and bring the items you mentioned.

This shoot was pretty awesome! Thank you to the people who made it possible. Great group of people. After we left, my daughter looks over and says, "the people at this shoot are really nice". It made me happy to hear that! I find the archery community rather welcoming. I'm happy she is seeing that too!! Thanks again for a great day of entertainment!!
