Question for a Merc specialist. I'm wondering if Part # 35-822626K04 oil filter
can be used vice a K03. I went to change mine and found a K03 installed vice the K04 i was sold. The K04 looks the same internally but has about an inch more length. I have found one reference where it says K04's fit in ser# OG760300 and up and mine starts with OR34---- This K04 filter came from a fairly reputable source BUT I'm not using it until I'm sure. I will be able to take it back next week but thought I'd ask here in the mean time.

As long as your 30 horse has the clearance for the extra 3/4". both of the filters are anti drain back, and 20mm x 1.5 thread spec. If you're not comfortable with it just exchange the filter for the proper one. Just a heads up it's been about 2 years since 822626k04 filter has been sold under that part number it changed up to 8m0065104. So I'm not sure if you were sold new old stock or have had the filter a while.

Thanks for the info. This is probably old stock as you say. IT will easily fit with good clearance. Its also listed on the box that it fits 2006 and older as well as new 40hp-115 I recently purchased this boat and engine has about 40 hrs total and filter and oil were never changed prior. I'll see if I can exchange or at least get the right one in case someone else ends up with it.

This is for the new fuel injected motor right? If so the same thing happened to me last year. I would take it back cause like you said the longer filter is for the older model which is a much larger motor compared to the new 526cc new one. I think the old motor was somewhere around 700cc.

Yep, Fuel injected. These are still on the newer engines 40hp to 115. Maybe the shorter versions save a nickel. Has more to do where they build the Tohatsu I think. Anyhow I'm going to get the K03 tomorrow. I didn't know they changed the engine specs. and size. All good stuff to know.
