Default Things get weird after 30 yards.

Hey everyone, I'm new to bow hunting and recently bought a new bow. I have a 4 pin sight on it. I sighted it in for 20, 30, 40 and 50 yards. Its dead accurate for the 20 and 30 yard mark. However, once I start trying to hit targets at the 40 yard mark, my arrows cut a hard left. I was told that once you get the north to south and east to west beams sighted, you don't touch it again, you only move the pins. I don't pull or release any different at 40 yards, so why is it cutting left? I'm getting super frustrated and a little discouraged. If you have some advice, I could sure use it. Thanks and good luck to your season!

Try moving your rest to the right 1/16" and see what that does for you.

With field tips or broadheads? What type of rest?

What kind of bow? If your centre shot is good you may have to yoke tune.

And right now I'm using 100 grain field tips because I will be using a Rage mechanical tip which is also 100 grain

Yep. Has to be a poor tune or form. There are no yokes to adjust. Do what Kurt 505 suggests and go from there. If it gets worse, go the other way with the rest in very small increments.

Could be a really weak spined arrow too?

Ok, thanks everyone, I appreciate the info. I'll keep practicing and really watch my form, if that doesn't help I'll adjust my rest. This is a while new world than sighting in a rifle.

Are you mindful of your sight level? At further distances, an un-level bow will cause the arrow to impact left/right of center.

Don't touch anything until you got your form figured out or your just going to get really frustrated.
Don't expect to be great at shooting after 30 arrows down range as in a few to get the juices flowing then reach out when your muscles are fresh...fatigue also plays into the equation.

Could well be form At farther ranges a very slight form defect can really amplify where arrow impacts. If right handed a very subtle outward bending of wrist is all it takes

If I were you, I would head in to JimBows and get Carson or Dave to paper tune your bow. I think they charge less than forty bucks to do it. It will be the best money you could spend right now this close to season

This.

It is surprisingly easy to mess up the shooting form. Getting the bow set up properly eliminates so much guessing, so you can just focus on your form.

No offense but there's an awful lot of details left out of the op...you need a professional to go over your bow and watch you shoot. Pay attention to what they tell you, you will save yourself a lot of money, time and frustration

well everyone, I have figured out the issue. I was getting more frustrated and finally took my bow to Trophy Book Archery. They looked at my bow and with in seconds figured out the issue. The cam stopper was installed in correctly, installed on the wrong side and the wrong level. The cam itself was installed incorrectly too. Further inspection showed my string was already wearing and ready to pop. There was a couple other things that were tuned and the bow had a new cable and string installed. Pretty frustrating after owning the bow for just over a month. But now, its paper tuned, and excellent grouping. What's even better? The guys at the shop said my form is great. Good to know its not me! Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

You could be torqueing the bow a bit which at further distances will start becoming more visible, make sure when you shoot your bow is level

Let a knowledgeable person look at your form/release etc and paper tune your bow.
If you are a new /novice archer shoot 300 arrows a day for 2 weeks and see if you still have the same(or new!) issues.
Form is something you practice...not get advised on.

id give it a quick paper tune, then do a french tune after that. that will make sure your rest and sight are aligned with each other

Maybe check the OP's last post..... If you are trying to reach 20 post for the buy and sell, at least make sure the advice is valid.

To the OP,

please do not try to shoot 300 arrows a day, because I guanrantee you will have new issues.

and

form is definitely something that can be coached an "advised on". If your form is bad, practice only makes your bad form worse.

300 arrows a day???? Thanks for the advice

Thanks for the advice everyone, my shooting is far more accurate after the changes were made to the bow. I now have a 1 inch grouping at 20 and 30 yards. little wobbly at 40 and 50, but still hitting the target. I'm going to start practicing shooting at 40 and 50 right off the start for a bit while I'm still fresh. It's amazing how much a wobble can really affect your shot. I think I will just stick to a 30 yard hunt this season, I don't want to risk a **** shot on a deer tell I feel more confident. Would hate to wound an animal due me being cocky. I'll have to see how accurate I get in the next couple weeks.
