I've got the Colorado XT Pontoon boat. Haven't got it in the water yet, but can't wait to get it out this spring.

This one is a work in progress. After owning it for 5 years I have rebuilt and changed everything to exactly how I want it. Next winter it'll get paint and maybe a winch.

This one isn't much of a fishing machine but sure will be fun to race.

Really nice boats guys!

Default Recent Gel Coat Restoration

Hi All,

I thought I would share the results of some recent gel coat restoration work that I did to my boat for anyone who is interested or considering similar work. I bought the boat last fall from a family friend and as you can see, it had 35 years of hard scaling and oxidation on the hull. The colour scheme will always give away its age, but the work made a huge difference to its appearance.

All in all, the work took about 9 hours and here are the steps I followed:

1. Initial stripping with variable speed sander/polisher (at around 1000-1500 RPM) with 1200 grit wool pad and 3M Imperial Stripping Compound.

2. Hand sanding with 800-1000 grit wet sand paper (with a lot of water) to address areas that polisher wouldn't remove.

3. Very light hand sanding with 600 grit wet sand paper (with a lot of water) to address stubborn areas 800 wouldn't remove.

4. Second round of compounding with polisher (1200 grit wool pad) to buff out swirl marks left from sand paper. Then completely rinsed and dried the boat.

5. Applied about 3-4 coats of wax (so far).

3 before and 3 after photos.

This is mine. 100% arm-powered, 16' fibreglass. Canoe believe it?

At our NWT lodge we use the Lund SSV 16' we have the new Etec 30 hp motors on them. Love the boat motor combination and the motors are awesome.

God bless you guys for this thread....awesome boats!! I promised the ol' lady I'd wait a couple of years before buying my first ever, but seeing some of the nice ones in here makes it tough for me to hold off. Ha ha!! I'm thinking that Lund SSV 16 set-up seems like a nice, affordable option for a starter set-up...
