This is an argument I've never lost! Ever time I've taken someone to my number one, they've admitted it's hands down the best.

No #1 in Edmonton easily, Prime Time Donair. They've got two shops now, both inconveniently located in Southeast Edmonton.

No #2 - Simon King

No #3 High Voltage

I wouldn't say I've been to every shop in the city, but I've easily been to over 30 different ones.

Went to High Voltage, had the "Easterner" today and honestly I think Simon King has them beat hands down.

There is a third Prime Time Donair. I speak the truth. Northeast Edmonton.

I'll try it out and report back on my findings.

I've had Simon King twice and would rank High Voltage above it.

Tasky K's in Lloydminster is what got me hooked on donairs.

But living in Saskatoon, I've found Afghan Kebab and Donair to be the best in town.

Worked at a Greek restaurant in another life, we made our own meats and tzatziki sauce, best gyros on the go. wish I had taken the recipes
Try Eddies on 91 St. Closest I have gotten since leaving home

Somethings are just so much better out east ........ gyros (donairs) is one of them, but you get things like hoagies and cheese steaks and you will never compare.

Default Donair

I don't know about the best but on 14 st. Just behind chicken on the way is a spot and I'll damn sure admit that it's the biggest I've ever had. I got the regular and could barely finish it and I can eat!

I go there regularly but I really don't find anything special about their donairs. Maybe I am missing out by not trying their primetime donairs?

I like Simply Donairs in St. Albert better. More meat and sauce and I think the meat has more spice too which I like.

It's the Primetime donair you've gotta try. After they carve up the mystery meat they fry it up in the sauce of your choosing. Try the sweet and spicy. Bold bbq is damn good to

The last time I was in Halifax, I told the wife we need to try donairs there. I had been regaled time and time again about how great they are. We asked some locals where the "best" donair was. I don't remember the names but there were 2 that came up when we asked several people. We went to the most popular and I didn't think it was anything different than here in Edmonton. The next day we went to the other place and the same experience again. That time we just shared a donair as we didn't think it was going to be life altering. I think its just homesickness fellas. In fact it bothered me that I wasted meals on donairs in Halifax when I could've had good fresh seafood.

Now if they had a lobster donair

The beef meat donairs are generally no different. The best ones in Halifax in the 70's, in a very few shops, were still made with lamb meat, as with the Greek gyros. My fav was a hole in the wall place on Spring Garden Road called, aptly, Greek Donair, and the meat was lamb. I don't know whether any place still uses lamb (?), there or here.

So is there someplace that makes a decent homemade gyro around Edmonton? Or even a good souvlaki? I haven't had greek food in years.

Looking at the map and it's position compared to the Citadel I believe this is one of the places we tried.

Just came out of Prime Time donair north side. They don’t crack my top ten.
Simply Donair St Albert and Roadrunner 99th and Whyte (been years since I’ve been there) are still tops.
