Default Wabamum early fishing

With Wabamum being zero retention fishery is there any reason why it could not be open early. I understand and support the need for seasonal closures but I think there could be some lakes where we could support some early season fishing.

There is still a certain percentage of fish the end up dying after being caught and released. The reason they close lakes at this time of the year is to help the sustainability of the fishery. Opening lakes early would likely have a negative effect on fish populations, whether it was strictly c&r or not. If they were to only open certain lakes while everything else was closed it would also create extremely heavy pressure on those lakes, also resulting in a negative effect on the fishery.

It's an ideal thought at first glance, but when you dig a little deeper it seems to make the most sense to let these fisheries reproduce and do their thing in peace.

On a side note, I too am having withdrawals from fishing lol. This time of year always seems to drag.

Most species spawn at ice out or a bit after. Probably best to let them spawn in peace. It's pretty easy to figure out where they will be congregated at this time of the year. Let em be. Fish the pothole trout lakes or some of the major rivers which remain open year round in talking moose's opinion.😉
But ya, sucks waiting, especially on an early ice out year like this....

I also believe we should leave them alone while they do their thing.
How would you like it if someone was throwing hooks at you while you were getting busy lol!

Let the fish spawn in peace. Lakes that are close to major centres are under too much pressure in our province. The fishing in these lakes is slow at best and increasing pressure to an almost year round fishing season will do even more harm to them.
