I had never considered going across to QCI but 1700.00 for the ferry is pretty steep. My boat is smaller so that would help. I will check it out.

The current price is $168 for the first 20 ft and then $19 per foot after that, plus $47 per person.
I just booked flights for June 28 til July 21 which should put me in prime chinook, good coho and great halibut. Prime time for beach netting crabs and digging razor clams.

Tried booking a ferry last year but they were full. Better book at least two months in advance when pulling a trailer.
I've done haida gwaii 2 times with my own boat, best place iI've been by far. West coast skidgate channel !!!!!

Awww.... ya, guess not QCI for me this year unless I drive the boat there
Roughly 54 nm miles across so not really that far. But a dangerous crossing she can be. Natives crossed in canoes.
Been seriously think of doing it but would want at least 3 weeks to enjoy it and not have to push the weather window

IF we had a couple dead calm days and no rush to get back, AND there was someone else that would cross at the same time, maybe 2-5 boats I would do it.
My Tub Toy holds 600L of fuel and wound out will give me 45+ mph (on gps) so it is doable, but I am so new to Rupert that I will be happy just hitting the salt there for quite some time.
I also want to go a little further north this summer if it really is as easy as everyone says to get the Alaska license, and try for some Yankee Halibut too!

One day though....

For the time being we are happy around Rupert. We just started fishing the area a few years ago. In the past we mainly fished Bamfield and the odd trip to Kitimat.

Talking to the guys at the ferry last year, they said that they had a waiting list (which is not unusual) BUT FOR EVERY SAILING from May until Sept. That's unusual. I saw tons of Alberta, Washington, Oregon plates, many more than previous years.

My wife and I are heading to just south of Port Hardy on the island in July. I did the calculations for the ferry ride across and our motor home towing our 1825 Kingfisher will be around $250 each way. We are over height and over length. Sounded like a lot. Until I saw the $1700 to go across to QCI. There are some decent places to stay and lots of decent fishing for guys that don't have the 24' plus boats. I've even fished up there in my 14 Lund and had a great time. You just have to be cautious and watch the weather.

This years reports from Alaska are looking bloody amazing. They are predicting the best run in 20+ years. Don't miss out. It should be fun.

Thanks for the info. I checked it out and sockeye are open for 4 this year. I hope that does not change. We caught a few by accident last year and i would like the chance to go after them a little harder.
