Default networking sonar's

I recently mounted a kicker on the swim platform of my boat for trolling which when using, I will be sitting at basically the transom and out of view of my sonar/plotter. I know Lowrance has the capability of networking two finders by running an Ethernet cable between them but i'm hoping someone can answer a few questions about that.

My current unit at the helm is a HDS gen 2. Do I have to stick with an HDS model for the second sonar or can I go to something a little less expensive?

Also i'm wondering if I want sonar and GPS on the second unit do I have to buy a model with gps and sonar?

Ideally If I could just get a lower end model ex. hook 7x or hook 7m that would save some $$, that would be great. I've read a few different things on the internet that don't really match up and I've tried contacting Lowrance twice with no response. It would be great if someone here that's tried it can give me a definitive answer. Thanks

Need HDS to network. Will be able to share the transducer(think that is what you want).

Maybe find a good used unit.

Will I need to run a power cord to the second unit or is power provided by the Ethernet cable?

I think you can buy a wifi hub from lowrance and connect with your phone or a tablet.
My gen 3 comes with built in wifi. I use a tablet at the stern.w

I bought a water proof tablet and attached Velcro strips at strategic places around my boat. You can even change all the settings from the tablet which is nice.
