Default It Pains Me....But the Cure is on the Way!!

I came across a very, very rare pistol that I absolutely MUST have, and it's the most pricey gun I have ever made a deal to buy. The wife is usually totally ok with whatever I do with guns, but she even balked on it a bit, till I told her I would thin the herd a bit in order to get this Unobtanium Unicorn....so I have sold off 5 very nice pistols in the last two weeks. Including a Colt Python, a nickel S&W 19-3, Sig P220 Match Stainless Elite, and a very rare S&W 17 (one of 150). And I'm only 75% of the way there, but the deal is struck and it is going to happen. Dang, collecting is a painful sickness sometimes! But just wait till I get the Unicorn and post pics.

Feel my pain, brothers.

Colt SAA ?

Billy's/Pat's/Jesse's/Rob's/or Teddy's S&W no. 3 Schofield

WW1/WW2 1911 ?

Nazi Walther ?

I saw your P220 Match Stainless F/S, and was tempted... C'mon, spill the beans.

Darn, I was gonna suggest scotch as partial trade for the p220! That being said, I anxiously await pics of the new unicorn!!!

No hints, but I am sure you will all be behind the decision to get it. I'm putting a lot of money on it!

Good things come to those who wait! I commend your diligence. I understand the "have to have " purchases.

Oh, it will.....It is going to be a Crown Jewel in the collection, no question about it.

I very much look forward to finding what the Crown Jewel is, please don't keep it a secret once you get it. I just parted with a valuable firearm in order to acquire the lathe that I speak of in my "father's day" thread. I have no regrets and so look forward to the delivery of my new toy....uh! "tool".

Well, I'm saving for a rimfire rifle that will be maybe the second most I've ever spent on a gun....but even then, it's probably worth about 1/3 of what your Python is...or was. Makes me think I'll have to Google that unicorn once it's revealed. Handguns that expensive are definitely not things I'm normally on the watch for. Don't have my RPAL either...so that's part of it. lol

The only handgun collector I know here in Ontario considers his NIB .475 Wildey Magnum to be his prized possession. Told me be bought 2 back in the day, shoots one...leaves the other in a box, never fired. Not suggesting that's the pistol you're after, but the conversation reminded me of his story about lusting after that particular gun....and how proud he is that he's held onto it that long.

A little update on the Alberta Python. I've communicated with Paul at the Colt Archives a number of times, and his take on it was that each Provincial gun in series was unique...but he couldn't come up with the paperwork to substantiate the claim as it is currently not where it is supposed to be. He is still looking.

However! He recommended I buy a particular book which references the series, so I did. It further substantiates that the Alberta gun is a unique, one off gun in the series. That book is the best $120 I have spent recently!

Cool factor of 10/10. I wondered something though (and you don't have to answer this)... Are you trying to establish it's uniqueness/monetary value for insurance purposes? I'm married into an insurance family, and have been reminded a number of times that I should have detailed records of what I have, it's value, etc. And BELIEVE me...there is nothing in my collection that comes close to what I suspect the value of that gun is. I doubt all of them together would!

Wow TC. That's an amazing piece.

That's the type of thing that heirlooms are made of.
