Default Trollin' Thompsons for jacks.

Me and my partner got the boat out for the first time this summer. The walleye weren't being very co-operative so we headed for the weed beds and trolled Len Thompsons. No real big ones but lots of action to keep my partner happy. Most of my earliest fishing memories involve catching pike the same way with my grandfather, and now its great to pass those memories on.

Awesome! Fishing for those big predators is one of my favorite things in the world. I just wish I could do it more. Enjoy your time together!!!

Sounds like fun.

Brothers and I went to Great Slave this past weekend. Not much open water but we have our own spot and it was open.

The Jacks were spawning so the action was crazy. Biggest fish caught was a little over 16 pounds. Lots between 6 and 8 pounds and crazy numbers of small fish.

I had a Coony take a pass at my hook but it did not take.
We had fish for dinner and supper three days in a row.

On the way home we stopped for fuel in Hay River. There I got to talking to some young ladies who had also been fishing, just a few miles from where we were. They caught lots of Jack, a few Walleye and some Whitish.
I should have asked them to teach us how to catch the Whitefish. None of us have ever fished for them.

Oh well, maybe our paths will cross again some day.

I totally hear you there. I'm not trying to come across as some super angler but I've been fortunate enough to catch some decent bass, a few trout around 20", a couple King salmon in the 25-30 lb range, some smallish tuna offshore, not to mention quite a few nice walleye... and I've never got as stoked about any fish the way I do when a nice 40" plus pike starts peeling line!

About the only fishing I enjoy anywhere near pike fishing is catching bluegill and sunfish. Odd combination I know, but something about never quite knowing whats grabbed your worm when that bobber slips under the water...

Glad your partner shows interest.

My daughter only cares about WIFI, smart phones, junk food and stuff.

I bought her a rod when we were in Yellowknife and brought her on the Ingraham trail to fish at Tibbitt lake...she didn't care
