Swan hills/ Slave Lake Roads
Any update on the roads?
Plan on heading there at the end of this week. Do not want to do the 5hr drive if the roads are terrible.
The worst part of the roads are cleaning the mud afterwards! Stickiest stuff I have ever dealt with!
Thx.

The roads were greasy when I left yesterday. By the looks of the forecast for this weekend I'd bet money they will not be good by Saturday

Thanks for the update!
I was figuring it would be still pretty bad.

The clean up is fairly simple, put a sprinkler under the vehicle when you get home and move it a couple times to get the entire length of the undercarriage. Turns your $60 car wash into a $15 car wash.

Last weekend it was really rutted and muddy. Still pretty brown with snow and standing water in spots. Main roads are passable in 4x4 but be careful on side lines. Right now it's calling for a ton of rain Fri and Sat. If that actually happens it won't be much fun in there. Car wash was only $40

Thanks! I generally go later but trying to sneak in a hunt since I will be away for the rest of the season.
Still snow eh? Any sign of activity?

Always worth trying. Especially if it's your only weekend. Just watch the weather. - Snow was in shady spots and in the trees. Open areas are clear and were walkable with my muck boots. Still pretty brown though. We couldn't find much for bear sign yet but also didn't spend a ton of time. Lots can change in a week though.

Yup, did a late season sled ride to Goose Tower in March. 20 km of just the first inch was soft and we came out in 4 inches of fresh wet snow on the highway washing mud off too. Still cost me 40 bucks to wash the truck, sleds and trailer the next day lol.
Where I hunt, the Calling lake gumbo is much the same, that stuff sticks to anything.

I'm pretty sure that mud ruined my transmission. Only 160,000km and probably 30,000km in that mud at the end and it blew. The added weight on the tires just burned the tranny up.

Gear lingage caked in mud
Had a 4x4 luckily drive worked with all gears, but could not shift into 2 or low!
60 bucks at car wash, everything worked again.
