Anyhow, post them up! Still rocking my Brodie Recluse but looking around for a lighter second bike or possibly just upgrading.

Still riding my Rocky Instinct 950.

Although I picked up a 2005 Kona JTS for commuting/training/gravel.. Didn't think I'd like it as much as I have. Some great gravel roads down here. Just need to ride some dirt soon.

I am riding the same Specialized Epic that I have ridden for the last few years. I don't have any plans to change in the near future.

Woolco CCM mountain bike. Got it when a friends mom worked there during the switch to Walmart. Got a clearance price and her discount. Just replaced the back tire 2 years ago. Pedal bearings are going, been a great bike and it has a ton of km's but time to replace with something with shocks and disc brakes. Will be going Giant. All my kids bikes have been Giant from when they were small to almost adults and have really done well with them.

A Cervello R3 for the road and an older Townsend for the trails.

Jamis Dakar 2.0

I saw the price of comparably spec'd new bikes. I think I'll be ridin' and repairin' the Dakar for quite a while.

Focus Cayo on the road but want to pick up a new bike for the commute and trails.

Any recommendations? 20km commute, some gravel, nothing serious terrain wise.

Want disk's and a 2k budget.

I crashed my Iron horse Maverick last May and spent 9 days in the hospital with a ruptured spleen. Missed out on the WCWT. Less than a month later I fished a walleye tournament in LOTW in Kenora.

My mountain biking days are over.

Check out any of the new gravel/cyclocross bikes, they are awesome and really versatile.

Crappy tire special....28 years old come to think of it now

New tires many times, brakes and chain but it keeps on going!

Heard a guy talking on the bus yesterday.
He said something along the lines of a $10000 carbon fiber XC bike being pretty much the only way to go, and he won't buy any lesser "piece of junk".

I'm surprised he didn't *hear* me roll my eyes.

My old 2002 Ellsworth Joker hasn't let me down yet! Needs a new crank though, I should get that ordered - forgot about it.

Default Bikes

I met a guy in Edmonton, an oil rig worker, who says he has 5 downhill mountain bikes that are about $10,000 each. He drives to whistler to downhill when he is off the rigs.
He said he went off a jump, blew a wheel and it was $2000. Told me he deals at revolution cycle. Was in there buying a bike and told the owners son about this guy. He said that they call him Mad Mike and he always buys really expensive downhill bikes. Told me the guy is a fantastic rider, does crazy jumps and he is about 50.

Have a chance to get my ancient circa 1992 GT Timberline back from
a friend, and looking back I rode that thing more than any of the other dozen or so bikes I have owned. Actually kind of interested to see how much things bave changed.

On a side note the wife will be riding her broom..

I almost pulled the trigger on a new 2016 Trance 4 last year - but I got a brand new Trance 3 in March.

Love it compared to the old hard tail Kona and Specialized I rode before going full suspension.

I'm riding a GT XCR 2000. It is a very competent platform the way it is configured and the I-Drive is pretty slick, but I don't know how it compares to today's XC bikes. Paid more for it used than I did for my first car

My Ellsworth Specialist got a bunch of new components this year. Such a fun bike. With the warm weather my Echo Control will be getting some time on some obstacles.

What's the weight on that Trance? My recluse is burly but it is 40 pounds and is a real bear to pedal. I may just get a second bike (front suspension, 27.5/29 wheel) rather than selling the Recluse.

Giant doesn't give and accurate weight for the Trance in it's specs. Too many variables, tires, frame size, seat post, accessories etc. I haven't weighted mine accurately - but with a large frame - it's definitely still a sub 30 pound bike and a joy to ride and pedal. The full suspension really allows you to giver more grunt going up hill too - and of course faster down hill. I stayed away from a 29er. I really like the 27.5 compared to the old school wheels I was riding.

The Trance is a decent bike at a good price point for a serious off road bike. Two times what I paid for the old school Kona and Specialized - but 10 times the bike.

Technology is still moving right along - even for a $2k bike.

my co-workers accused me of having a bike like that . I truly have a hard tail Fischer and I put together an old school full suspension Norco with pieces I salvaged .

Just bought a Supercycle Beast 29 at Canadian Tire made some modifications and plan on riding it lots this summer.

It's far from the best type of Mountain Bike due to its weight, but my last one lasted for ten years until it was stolen, they go anywhere. For $250.00 plus $150.00 for modifications, you can't go wrong.

Unfortunately/fortunately the technology just keeps on changing and improving with mountain bikes. Along with that the price point has also increased dramatically to the point that mid-level mountain bike will set you back about $3500. Anyone doubting the benefits of the newer technology should get out to the demo-days and give a few a try. If riding the pathways is your comfort level then you can probably stick with an older bike but if you want to experience some dopamine/endorphin a newer bike is a must have. At the tender age of 67 I can't wait till the trails at West Bragg/Kananaskis dry up to enjoy another season! Road biking in the shoulder season between Fat Biking and Mountain Biking sucks! Full suspension, disc brakes and dropper posts are a minimum IMHO with carbon and a 1x12 drive train on the wish list. One group that puts on rides in the Calgary area and is getting more into mountain biking is the Elbow Valley Cycle Club. Google their site and you will see that the club is also putting on rides for beginning mountain bikers.

Good to see another old guy at the same "tender age" with the "right stuff" and the right attitude to actively enjoy the sunset years life has to offer.
