Default 2015 Archery Season Recap

I do not post here much, but I read a lot. I use this forum as a tool to learn more about archery, as I have just completed my 2nd full season. It seems like there is always something new to learn about bow hunting! I get a lot out of reading here, so I thought it was only fair to "give back" and share some of my pictures from this season.

Spent a pile of time pre season scouting and gaining permission. Trail cams and stands were set in July in good areas. Thousands of kms on the truck and hours behind the binos gave me a good idea where to set up once the season began.

Here is one of the Whitetail bucks I filmed during pre season. I had a couple close encounters with him, but he was harvested by another hunter.

My gameplan for Mule Deer was spot and stalk in standing crop. Varieties of Canola that can be straight cut instead of swathed has really lengthened the spot and stalk season! We still had standing Canola fields that were frequented by Deer at the end of September. I harvested a Mule Deer buck on September 25. We had mega wind that day which allowed me to sneak in to 6 yards and make a perfect quartering away shot.

This buck had a run in with another hunter. He had a scrape on his back inside leg and an old 2 blade broadhead buried into the back of his front knee. It looks like they attempted a texas heart shot and missed? If this was you, I would love to hear your story about this buck!

Next was Moose rut. October 2nd and I was sitting 20 feet up in a tree. A couple grunts later and I had a bull Moose come in. I took a 28 yard shot and he only went 75 yards before dropping. My first moose.

I was back up in a tree for Whitetail rut on November 9. Had bucks all around at first light. Rattle, grunt, snort wheeze and had a buck returning calls in minutes. I made a 12 yard shot and he only went 30 yards before dropping. my first Whitetail buck with the bow.

My season ended with a Suffield Base bull Elk tag for the Nov 30 season. Did not see any bulls on the base during my time there, but had fun driving around with buddies and seeing new terrain. Let it be known that the Suffield base cull is not a good hunt for a die hard bow hunter haha.

Thanks to my buddies for helping me pack critters out, can't wait till next year!

Mike

Sick season, especially since only been for a couple years. I hope to get a moose with the bow someday. congrats on the early season mule buck too, got my first mule buck with a bow this year, just a spiker however but being that i bought a bow in august and never shot one before hand made it really rewarding to get one less than a month after i learned to shoot haha. Love the story on the broadhead post it if u hear anything from how it got there!

Got all my animals hung up from 2015. This offseason is way too long! Can't wait for 2016 with the easy winter we have had. Thanks for looking.

Great season, and a nice pile of sheds. Hopefully this season plays out the same for you, but I think you're taxidermy bill will require a second job!
