My first 22 was a nylon 66, it's gone now but It's definitely on my list of guns to pick up. That lever looks pretty cool.

I remember reading the advertisements for those when they first came out. I never had one, and always wanted one.

Why are the nylon so sought after?

Are they good shooters? rare? well made? all of the above?

Just curious.

Cool collection!

I have one as well and love it. I have made some impressive shots with that thing and it is a hoot to shoot. Great shooter, light, compact, and fun. Prob my fave .22

In initial testing the 66 was fired either 25000 or 250000 times, I can't remember which without out cleaning and never a FTF. Rumour has it that there are no parts that need lube. FS

Default 2 Remington Nylon 66's, only one barrel.

Or if I could buy a barrel for a Remington Nylon 66.

We were shooting my Apache black .22 and my dad's Mohawk Brown .22.

When he fired the shell casing exploded out the ejector. We stopped firing it and I took it home to clean it and the barrel is blown.

Both guns are used and well taken care of. No more than minor surface scratches (Other than a barrel missing.). If there is someone interested in buying them send me a message. Detailed pictures can be taken.

Default same as duceman

I too have a brown one I bought as my first gun & the clip split & I just can't get it to work great any longer. Feeds once t hen jams, can't find a good way to fix the plastic junky clip. I never loved the gun or how it shot, but the sentimental value is why I'm keeping it in the safe.

Good Gawd ... this thread takes me back!

The Nylon 66 was my first (~ 1972). Lots o' water under the bridge since then

A little bit of history ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_Nylon_66

That's ^ exactly how mine worked (tube mag in the stock).

I seem to remember it being a big pain though, when it was time to do a proper job of cleaning the barrel (rifling) and the action.

Default nylon 66

owned one since 75 , light , durable , very reliable, i always put 5 in the tube and pulled the bolt when needed, the gun was treated poorly when i trapped beaver by Jon boat and with the electric you could sometimes cruise close and pick up bonus beaver at dusk sitting on the bank. The wife used it to dispatch many leg hold coyotes . The gun spent a night in the river bottom , i used a large magnet to get it back the next day, a vigorous swish in the water to get the muck off , drain out the water put in new shells and a barrel check and i was good to go .If you can buy one still it would make a good addition to your gun cabinet.

I had the same issue. The original tube would not stay in it, and the first replacement tube didn't fit. I got one from Western gun parts, and it works better, but I rarely shoot it now.

Default 250,000 shots

Friend had one when we were kids.
It was a good shooter, reliable, fun, modern feeling.

Faststeel, iirc it was 250,000 shots without a failure. That's pretty lucky considering the QC record of 22LR ammo. Didn't Remington's guy also hit countless small blocks of wood thrown into the air?

The kids like it because its light. I think they are kinda cheap feeling myself....

I nabbed the Mohawk they had on Sunday, it was only $75, as it had no magazine. Now I have two! A hint of rust on the front sight but it shoots fine. I got extra magazines from the fine gentlemen at Bashaw Sports.

I have one that was passed down from my dad.
I seemed to jam a lot so I completely disassembled it and cleaned it.

But it still jams when cycling. (Clip fed semi auto.)
Possibly the ammo?
I think I was using Remington Stingers.
What is everyone's experience with ammo brands?
