October 2011, I was sleeping in the bed of my truck, just covered with a tarp. At about 3:00 AM, I woke up and heard a couple bulls bugle, followed by wolves howling from 3 different directions. Half an hour later, the wolves howled again, but that time they were closer to the elks location. First thing in the morning I went to hunt where I heard the elk bugle over night and I found a dead wolf, killed by the elk.
Good to hear. So much of the elk areas such as Smoky River and Ya Ha Tinda (as well as reportdely, Yellowstone, in the US) have been impacted by wolf predation.
They don't care for dogs either, careful if you take your dog into elk country, you might get a lot more excitement than you can handle.

Hunted elk for years, went to Jasper area closed for calving by Athabasca, started walking by Beckers bungalows, then started to see cow elk, elk started chasing me and dog running in front of me, thought about bear "tyeing running shoe" story. Any way as cow elk chasing me I scrambled like a squirrel up pine tree with low branches, she circles tree spots dog and goes after him. I run like hell in opposite direction to truck, dog finally shows up. Sometimes cow elk hunt the hunters!
