Default Who will lead the new party?

As far as I'm concerned the best leader is one who can win. Others don't agree they look for other qualities, and that's fine too, it is a democracy.

So far we have 2 candidates, Mr. Kenny who I don't think can beat Notely and Mr. Jean who has already lost to Notely. I like Rona.

Are there other candidates who are interested and have a shot?

If we do this wrong we will be very sorry.

Peter Lougheed lost the first time as well. Brian Jean was leader for a grand total of two weeks prior to the last election and had just lost a son. He really wasn't prepared for the campaign. I personally believe he would be the best choice after being the opposition leader for a term, but Ron would be excellent as well. Time will tell.

I just look at this as an attempt by Jason Kenney to find a home and dump the Conservative's debt on the wild Rose. Kenney's just too slick for my taste, sign of a snake oil salesman.

Jean lost to Notley when his former party leader crossed the floor, and he was left to deal with the aftermath. As well, that was before the NDP had started their reign of carnage on the Alberta economy. The fact is, that Jean continues to gain the support of the Alberta people, while the NDP continues to turn the Alberta voters against them. I believe that the NDP will lose the election, rather than the leader of the combined party winning it.

I could live with either one as a Premier. Lets face it, they both served under Harper. Neither one is going to take the party or the province far from where he took Canada. Neither are right wing nut-jobs, though the NDP will paint them as such. And that said, they won't bring in all the policies some of the far right folks in Wildrose would like. Sorry, they just aren't going to shut down public schools and health, or get rid of gay marriage or abortion. Not going to happen.

I just want the person who can most easily defeat Notley. Jean actually comes across as nicer, which could help, though I see Kenney being better able to face off against Notley in a debate. Let's face it, Notley is the NDP's best asset. People like her. She comes off as smart and reasonable. Will be hard to best her one-on-one.

I just hope Michelle Rempel doesn't wade in. She's just looking for some sort of Leadership gig... the city, the province, she doesn't care. She's all ambition. Cant stand her.

I'm pretty sure if that right wing extremist ever managed to gain leadership of a party he would certainly ensure their downfall. What the party needs is a slight right of centralist leader, not sombody out in right field that is constantly at odds with the party leadership...

Still a long way away from a new party being formed. Both groups have to agree. Then a leadership race.

In my opinion, Jean saved the party, pretty good result considering what Prentice and Smith did to the WR and he really had no time to get ready for the election and don't forget, he also lost his son at that time. I feel Jean deserves a shot at running the province. After that we can decide if he was a good choice.

If Kenney don't win, he needs to be a solid supporter of the new leader. Last thing the new party needs is the knives coming for Jean from Fildebrandt and Kenneys supporters. I actually hope Filderbrant runs too. Be a good test to see just how much support he really has. I think he has a ego bigger than his support.

Who else could come from the outside and have a glimmer of hope? Rona would be a nice addition to the race but she seems to have made it clear she won't but we all know that can change.

I have no issue with Jean as premier, sure hope he win the leadership.
