Default After killing gopher.

Hello All,

Im very new to owning a rifle and like any hobby/passion, this one is filled with so much information to research and digest. I thought I'd reach out to the community: after successfully hunting a gopher or a number of gophers, what does one do with the remains?

is this dependent on the type of land that you're on?

ex. would a farmer ever want you to dispose of the gophers off their land after hunting them?

thanks, Ruben A.

Well if you've got a couple of them you could make a peter cover if not I think the crows, ravens, magpies and other rural critters take care of them smartly. Good on you for being conscientious of it though. Thanks.

Take them somewhere that does animal cremation. And then bring the ashes back to the land the gophers came from.
And all will be in balance in the world.
(Or just leave them for the birds and beasts to clean up. They gotta eat too)

Don't worry about the sarcasm in this thread, Just leave the gopher where it fell, by nightfall either it's friends will eat it or another scavenger.

Use a bigger gun if you are concerned about remains.

Like some have already stayed at scavengers will clean it up .
With that said my cousin lives on a farm and always takes a few for his cats believe it or not so nothing really goes to waste on the food chain.

Yup. I've found my .22WMR distributes the meat a bit more, Centerfires must really blow 'em up good.

Default Who's a good boy ?

A few years ago, I was cleaning up the gophers in my pasture. Later that day, my Lab went out and retrieved every single one and left them on my front door step.

Scavengers do not get them all. Nothing like having your bird dog roll in fermented gopher

Do not stuff them down the hole. Sometimes foxes and badgers dig them out and make bigger holes
