I prefer to put scopes of as good a quality on my .22's as I have on my centerfires, but some fellas do not share my belief....

My anwser is it depends, my 22's are plinkers/gopher/grouse I find ammo that works sight it in and basically leave it, checking it between batches of ammo or beginning of season. So my requirements are pretty low and I have found that Simmons 22 mag rimfire scopes just fine (Probably the only simmons product I would buy). There are plenty of better scopes out there but I have killed plenty of gophers with them.

TasCo with parralax adjust and then buy 50 boxes of ammo with what you have left over

Don't need anything more. I have a Bushnell 3x9 on mine. Let's face it, with a .22 LR you probably aren't going to be out before dawn, you aren't going to be shooting past 100 yards. It just doesn't have to be as good a scope as what is on your centerfire, doesn't have to withstand recoil, you probably aren't going to be out on a multi-day hunt in the snow and rain, etc. Bushnell would be top of the heap. Simmons, Tasco would probably do the job too. Different if you were going to be doing competition, but.....

Have a tasco Model #Mag39X32ST on my bolt action .22. It has bounced hundreds of miles on my quad, in the box of my truck, been rained and snowed on and we've had no trouble with it. Also have put hundreds of rounds through the rifle. Paid less between $60.00 and $70.00 for it.

Default Bushnell

Another vote for the Bushnell Banner. I have the 4-12X40AO on my CZ22.
Originally on my 10-22. For the price its nice and bright and very good eye relief. Nice size as well. Not to big looking on a .22
Also have an older(20+) made in Japan one on my .22-250 and never had a lick of trouble with it..

I have a bushnell rimfire scope, 3-9 power on a 22 and it works quite well, doesn't lose zero and work well in the 100 yrd range of my 22, lets face it most shots are 20-50yrs when hunting gophers and squirrels. These are 40-50 bucks I think.

The .22 "specific" scopes will have a parallax setting of around 50 yds, while normal centerfire scopes will be set for 100-150 typically. So your reticle will look more much more "fitting" on the target if you're shooting at typical rimfire distances (15-60 yds).

Personally, I have never found myself needing more than 4X final mag for hunting or plinking with a .22. I just ordered a Nikon 4X32 prostaff from SIR a couple days ago. $140 plus shipping. Seemed to be pretty much the only "mid range" optic available for a rimfire as it is one of the only scopes priced between the 50$ tasco or bushnells and the $200-400 weavers, leupolds and burris. I'll post a report on this thread as soon as I have her mounted and get a chance to try it at the range.

I shoot at longer ranges with my .22's than most people do, that is why I use different scopes than are typically available at your local Canadian Tire.
But then, I don't use a 22LR much for hunting anything but long range gophers and stuff.
The .22 I carry on the trapline is iron sighted....

Another 22 scope worth taking a look at is the Weaver Classic Rimfire line, available in both 4X and 2-7X. They are good quality scopes, clear and bright, and designed for shooting at 22 distances. They are also scaled down a little from regular hunting scopes, so in my opinion they look good on smaller 22s.

Default Hijacking

Sorry guys for hi-jacking but would you recommend the same scopes on a .17hmr? I think I will be purchasing one this spring. I would like to fit it with something like a 4-12bushnell banner. Comments?

The 4-12 is OK but I would bet you will like the 6-18 better, gophers get small @200 yards. I had the 4-12 on mine it was OK the the 4-12 went on to my new 270 and I bought the 6-18 and the extra magnification is useful.

Default Scope

I have a 3200 5-15 on one of my 17's and an older Simmons 6.5-20 on the other. The Tasco 6-24 is a good scope for the money as is the Bushnell legend 5-15

The Weaver rimfire scopes are good glass. Tough and reliable too.

Good luck.

I use a Bushnell Banner 6-18X40 on my 17. Works great. $130.

My buddy uses a Simmons 3-9x on his 22LR. Works really well. I have used it quite often. Under $100 with mounts included.
