How many people you need to seat? My family and I love our ranger 900. Can putt along with the wife and kids and not get dirty. But if you want to go mudding with the guys it rips pretty good! It seat 3 easily. But if I needed to seat 4 I would look a the kawi 4 seater!

It will completely depend on the style of riding you wish to do.

I have a Arctic Cat Prowler 700 HDX.

It has a dump box, which is great for camping and hauling wood. I've hauled tons of dirt and gravel with it also. When it's time for play, it seats three in the ca, which is enough for us as we also have a Grizz. I can't take the prowler anywhere everyone else goes. Only thing I can't do is keep up on roads with the wildcats and razors. But I didn't buy that machine to do 100km/r +.

I have had the Honda Pioneer 700-4 for a few years. Great when carrying the family on trips and when it's hunting time, push down the rear seats and you have a full sized utility area you can load up. Love it.

I have a Yamaha Rhino and love it. I was looking at the Viking at the time but got a great deal on a mint 2009 Rhino with lots of accessories ( bought off my friend who is a Yamaha dealer and now a Kawi dealer). The Viking would probably suited me better as now my 2 boys are getting older to fit 3 across but soon enough they will want to be on their own quad.

There is the 6 seater Viking . Also Kawi has a 4 seater Teryx that looks really good in the orange/white or green/white models.

I have an 09 Polaris Ranger. Positives are:
Comfortable to ride
Steers much easier than I thought it would
Don't need a tub trailer to haul stuff
Negatives are:
Too wide for a lot of trails.
Can't easily haul it in the truck
In swampy conditions gets stuck easier than a quad due to weight.

Wish I could afford a new 900 or the 1000.

Am not all that confident with reliability. Have had a few smaller problems but nothing too serious.

I went through this last fall. I had(still have) a midsize Ranger 800 which I loved and used problem free for the 2800 km I drove it.
I looked at the Kawi 4 seater and really wanted to get it for its size but the cost on them was stupid high.
I then convinced myself that that the Viking was the way to go since I have had Yamahas before and they were good machines. I went out and test drove the Yamaha and was very disappointed .It was a dog! It was extremely loud ,and what little top end power it had ,it took forever to get there.
The Honda ,while an interesting concept ,seating wise was also a dog and way over priced.
I went back to Polaris and ended up with a new old stock 2015 fullsize Ranger 550 prostar model. I really was not looking for the 550 thinking it would be a dog as well but to my surprise it outperformed the Viking by a long shot and was closer to my 800 than I expected in the power output. This thing is quiet and smooth for a single cylinder. It has plenty of power and with the 3 seats it's exactly what I wanted. The price was right too as I payed less for it than I did for my 2013 Ranger midsize when I bought it.
At the end of the day though I don't think any of the major brands are going to really let you down. The trick is to find out what your expectations and needs for the machine are and buy the one that will fit that niche. For me and the type of riding I do the 550 Ranger fit the profile and I am very happy with it.
After all that I am not so sure that Polaris puts the 550 in the full size Ranger anymore, opting for the bigger displacement 900 and 1000cc powerplant.I assume that is because of consumer demand more than the the capabilities of the 550 engine. I could be wrong though.

Exact same scenario here, it is an awesome machine!

That's my issue with them is the small cargo box. But it's the nicest 4 seater on the market.

Awesome looking unit. You could probably buy one of each of the other units mentioned in this thread and still not spend as much as this thing will cost though

I also went through this 2 years ago. You have to define what your needs are and what areas of less priority you are willing to compromise. We are a family of 4 so I was looking at 4 seaters. I looked at all the major brands and kept coming back to the teryx4 and that is that is what I got. Used, in good condition.

Summary of Teryx4 as I see it
It seats everyone safely and is very roomy for adults in the back (I sit there when the teenager drives). The back seats are inset towards the middle which has 2 main benefits. 1. It allows the passengers to see between the front seats enjoying a view 2. Scrub branches on narrow trails are less likely to smack kids in the face and body (this is HUGE). I also sit the young kids on a booster seat.

The Teryx4 is a very robust machine that is well built with what I believe is a very strong clutching system. It is comfortable to spend the day in. The turn radius is very tight for a 4 seater (same wheel base as the 2 seater) and the nimbleness shows in tight situations. You can not go as fast on the whoops as a long arm machine but that is not what I bought it for. I find it very stable on steep terrain and there is power (different for speed) when needed. It is also easy to work on. The hood lifts for ease of cleaning, the electronics are up high away from water and the intakes and exhaust are also high.

It is a bit loud in the cab (I wear earplugs) but that is what happens when you sit beside the engine. The bed is small but adequate for what I use it for. 1 or 3 seats are easily removable if I ever need it to put gear or an animal where a rider would sit.

I could go on but in short, I would buy the same machine again. For us it works!!

One thing I did when researching machines was to go to their respective forums and find the section on repairs and needed modifications. All machines need to be repaired (design flaw or human induced) and these sections will allow you insight into how easy or difficult this will be.

If you have any more questions ask away. Good luck in your search.
