Any particular hikes you have done, or like doing in jasper that you do some fly fishing along the way? I'm ditching the family for one day over July long weekend to do some fishing and hiking.

Walk around the north side of maligne. Walk along medicine. Walk the Athabasca.

Valley of the five lakes is a nice trail to hike and the fifth lake has always been good fishing for me. You will probably have to wade in to cast far enough though.
I'll second The Valley of the Five Lakes trail. Some people believe that the little rainbows in the creek you follow are the Athabasca Rainbow strain. The only east-slope native rainbow.

you can always hike up to Cabin lake and fish for rainbows, lots of them in there and you can wade in or there is an old cement structure you can cast your fly rod from.

It's not too bad. If you park just of Pyramid lake road, it's a pretty gentle grade up the fire road for a couple km. If you go straight from town down in Cabin Creek, it's steep for the first little bit but then eases off and is much shorter. It's a bit more scenic that way too.
