I should clarify. My father in law gave me one saying its better than an 870. Thoughts? Should I keep it or trade it for something better. It's going to be used as a chicken gun while moose hunting.
Comparing it to an 870 doesn't mean much unless you specify which 870. The Wingmaster is a far superior gun compared to the Express, and the Sxp is certainly not equivalent to a Wingmaster.. As to the sxp, it will be fine for shooting grouse.

Yes my father in law was comparing to his gun. A wingmaster. He has not bought a gun in 20 years. Or even looked at buying one. So I can understand that he might think new is better. Thanks for the advise. I will keep it.
Keep your money in your jeans. A Wingmaster is a nice gun. Top of the heap for pump guns. The price is also the top of the heap for the new ones. Most guys buy pumps so they don't have to worry about them. Sounds like this is your scenario, so keep the SXP. As for quality, my opinion is they're all pretty similar after you step down from the Wingmaster.
