Default Canoe trip recommendation

So the last few years me and a couple of friends have been doing a May long weekend canoe trip. We do the Nordegg to Rocky Mountain house trip, and it's great. But we are thinking we'd like to try something else this year. Possibly Whitecourt to the Klondike ferry, which is 137 km. Or the Macleod from Edson to Whitecourt. Has anyone done these routes or have any other suggestions. I heard the Pembina from wolf lake to Entwistle can be good if the water level is high enough. Also we are located west of Edmonton. Thanks

Red Deer river, Hi way 590 towards Drumheller. Stunning scenery, and if you have time, on towards Dinosaur Prov Park.

I have always wanted to do the Bowron lake trip. I've heard it's really nice. Maybe one day when the boys get a little older. For now it'll have to be closer to home trips.

If you are into longer trips, the Athabasca, from Hinton to Whitecourt is very nice. There is a stretch about half way through that has cliffs on both sides, and a huge cliff at the end of a long straightaway. Would like to do that trip again.

Keeping a close eye on this thread.
I would be interested in suggestions for a 3-5 day trip through a boreal area with zero private land and good odds of seeing some black bear.

Been there and I will tell you to ensure you do it. We did it and took out time seven days and six nights, simply amazing scenery and a wow factor for fishing.

Put in at the bridge over the NSR on the trunk rd west Of Nordegg and canoe to Rocky mountain house . A good weekend run..

Also , although I haven't done it, I would think the Big horn Dam as a put in for this same trip would be great too but obviously a longer trip

Hey loggrlee, could the Hinton to white court trip be done in a long weekend? I was also looking into the Macleod river from embarras to peers. That sound like it would be a good little trip. Has anyone done that? Thanks for the replies.

yes it can, but it has to be in high water, and, it cannot be over emphasized, you must! have a good canoe. we could have made it in two days, but the water was running very fast. actually, the fellow that dropped us off said just as they were going home the radio informed him, due to high waters the Athabasca is not recommended for recreational use.
