Default New fly guy

Hello out there, I am going to the Sheep river today to try my luck for some white fish, found a couple of holes and hoping they are still there, just not sure what flies to try wet/dry.... this is my first year fly fishing, any tips are welcome

Red #16 copper john for whites.
or hare's ear, pheasant tail, or prince nymph dead drifted.

you could also try swinging a small wet royal coachman

Large caddis dark green & orange sz 10&12. 3" brown &green cone head streamers and small 1" streamers in olive and silver worked for me this weekend . Hope that helps.best of luck. Royal coachman streamers sz14 is my go to white fish fly.

Default Go nymphing

Use something small and weighted like a copper Jon or beaded prince nymph. San Juan worms work too (the red worm). Use a strike indicator about 1.5 times the depth of the water and cast upstream of the hole so it gets down there. Keep a drag free drift so it sinks, use splitshot a foot above your fly if needed, you should be bumping the bottom. Strike frequently when the indicator does anything, whitefish can be subtle on the take. Good luck
