That would be top price for a finished (skinned, fleshed, stretched and dried, ready for market.) hide.

The January 2011 NAFA report shows a $30.00 top price for finished beaver and an average of $21.26, for the largest hides.
Overall average would probably be somewhere around $12.00

If one sells to a local buyer, expect 50% to 60% of NAFA prices. Remember, your buyer almost certainly sells to NAFA.

Considering that it takes me two hours on average, from set to finished pelt, per beaver, before expenses, beaver are not a money maker these days.

I figure a fellow is doing well if one can average the equivalent income of $5.00 per hour clear, per beaver.

However, if one can sell the carcass and castors, one can do a little better then that.

Don't do it people!

Unless you are very self centered and care nothing about the future of trapping wolverine in this province as well as other species to follow.

A mystery message, PM'ed to me yesterday...

heys guys, im also lookin for beaver. i just want like 3 of em for bear baiting this spring. Id pay 30 each if i absolutely had to, im also ignorant to their ACTUAL value though since ive never bought any before. BUT if they work for bait like ive heard that they do..... Id pay for it atleast once to see if its worth it. This is my first attempt going for bear this spring and id really like it to be a succesful hunt.

Sittn Duck, I successfully hunted bears for 10 years, personally and as an outfitter.....and never once used a beaver for bait.

Default Beavers

Just my opinion.
I have hunted, guided and baited bears for over 20 years.
Beavers ARE the best bait and I wouldn't consider going baiting without them.
They are not the only bait to use, but they will certainly add a great deal more attraction to your baits. There is a reason so many guys are after them.
Simply put. They work.

In fact, I will give you a couple of beavers to try. Freeze them solid. Slice them up on a band saw. You can use the slices on each bait. Run a couple baits with, and a couple of baits without. Then report to the Blog how good the beavers work.
PM me your contact info and I will see you get a couple of beavers.

Just in reading the post I am a bit naive as to how selling a Parks Canada guy (allegedly) beavers will affect your future in trapping?

Not trying to start debate I was just curious as to what effect this has?

I did a little research.

Dr. Anthony Clevenger is a senior research scientist at the Western Transportation Institute, Montana State University (Bozeman, Montana) and has been studying road effects on wildlife populations in Banff and the surrounding national and provincial parks in the Canadian Rocky Mountains since 1996.

And yes, APC is this Anthony Clevenger or someone pretending to be him.

I was unable to find anything that would lead me to believe that there is anything to be feared from Dr. Clevenger. If anyone out there has solid information to the contrary I would appreciate it if you would pass it on to the rest of us.

Ummmm... I think I was trying???

Shall I post the names of my sources on this forum to appease your doubt?

Would it matter if they got fired from their jobs?

My source is as good as it can get. You will have to trust me on that, as a fellow trapper looking out for the future of trapping in this province. I stand to gain nothing.

I will not take their bait either. $30.00 per carcass, $100 per carcass. I will not sell ourselves out.
