Browning... Boss or no Boss?
Hey, I'm going to be buying a Bowning A-Bolt M-1000 Eclipse 7mm WSM some time this winter. Was wondering if it's worth getting the Boss. Does it really increase accuracy and help you shoot tighter groups.

no the BOSS wont help you shoot better, that part of the equation is governed by the Nut behind the Bolt.
In otherward the BOSS is not going to magically make your rifle shoot superior to any rifle without a concentirc weight attached to the barrel, it is up to the individual to practice evaluate, and practice if they want to get good. Read more here:

FWIW I had one on my Super Grade Win 70. It was a pain in the rump. Not only will you swear you ears are going to bleed even with protection but you won't win any friends with it either.
The nut on mine would not stay tight either and even temperture change made the groups change. I put the CR on too which quietened it down.
but still the grief. The gun got traded for a VXIII and I've never looked back.
Sign me up for no boss.

There must be some reason why?

Several.
-It took me just as many shots to fine tune the BOSS as to develop a load for a rifle.
-I am able to get just as good or better accuracy with my non Boss equipped rifles with proper load selection.
-The boss kept coming loose changing the point of impact.
-BOSS equipped rifles have shorter barrels and produce less velocity.

Don't forget the noise level either!!
I hate the danged things, as a wise man once said
"somebody developing and marketing something to sell to somebody that thinks they need it!"......

You might also want to re think the thumbhole stock thing. Some think they look cool but they are a pain in the ass, miserable design for 2 handed carry, When you want to fire a second shot you have to pull your thumb completely out of the hole to function the bolt then find it again to put your thumb back in, then it gets cold and your wearing gloves, bad idea. Along the same lines as Cat says, something useless to sell somebody who is convinced they need it cause it looks cool, yet is entirely user unfriendly and a bad design for hunting applications.

Are you sure you want to carry an eclipse around? They weigh about 10lbs if memory serves. These are designed to be a bench rest rifle thus the stock design on them.

I think it will be no for the boss. It's something I've never seen, so I figured I would ask. Glad I did.
As far as weight, The rifle I use now is 9Lbs, so I'm use to it. Maybe I'll have another look at some of their other models though. Never though of the thumb hole being a big problem.
Thanks for the info guys.
