Default Improved Shooting

Im looking for input from those that have been shooting for years. I have a Remington Model 700 BDL DM SS 7mm Mag rifle, however the trigger pressure feels quite high so i called a gunsmith and he figures that it is usually set to 7-8 pounds factory.

I guess my question to you all would be, if i reduced that pressure on the trigger to say 3.5 - 4 would that improve shooting Consistency??

No question, if you have your trigger tuned, you should see some improvement, assuming you do your part. 3-4 lbs is perfect for hunting, a target only rifle could be lower but for hunting you have to consider gloves, cold hands, buck fever etc..

Not sure if you are attempting this yourself, but it sounds like you're new to the life so i would recommend seeking a prof gunsmith. A basic trigger job on a remi shouldn't be too much$$. Just a guess but somewhere in the $100-$150 range. there are also after market drop in triggers available. check with Western Gun Parts in Edmonton.http://www.westerngunparts.com

Hope this helps,

Thanks Good ol' Boy,

Well its not that im new to shooting or anything, been hunting for years and am a pretty good shot, but always thinking how can i be better! and on Sat when i shot it dawned on me ! theres so much tension on the trigger that there is a build up in your mind and the chances of flinching increase and the build up increases! so what if i reduced the pressure on the trigger so there wasnt that big build up LOL .......

Biggest thing I find in an un-tuned factory trigger that I hate is the creep. The weight doesnt bother me NEARLY as much as the creep. I shoot better with a trigger that has been tuned and is crisp, with no creep.

I like my triggers anywhere from 2.5-3.5 lbs for hunting applications. Get it tuned up and get the creep out and you'll notice a difference.

Yup I take a heavy trigger over a creey trigger. Really noticed it when I was load testing my 338 ruger 77 it's still a factory trigger and it is really creepy. and very distracting, I think a timiny is in order.

Mind you gopher shooting with my 22 has done more for my shooting than any one thing, quality time with a 22 and a few bricks of ammo is always recommended.

Also in the buy and sell there are some shooting corses advertized has anyone tried them are they worth it.
