Default Coyote Pelt Use Advice

Hey guys

Looking for some advice, I am not a licensed trapper but kill about about 10 yotes a year. This year I am wanting to do something with the hides (hat, mits, etc.). I am just looking for some advice on where to take a skinned coyote to have the pelts made into something. Is there a fur traders market that would take the pelts and make things with them? I am located in Calgary so wherever is closest

Thanks for the advice

You could try a local Hutterite colony or getting them tanned either at a tannery or tan yourself. Then make them yourself

I don't know where you'd take them in Calgary but "Nube" got some pelts tanned up here in Edmonton last year. I can't remember the name of the place though.

I tanned a couple myself last year using that formula in a bottle that you can buy at Halford's. They turned out good (ie no rotting, hair slipping, etc) but they still smell like coyote and they aren't coming in the house.....lol. I'll look into a way of eliminating the smell next summer.

Stanley at Western Fur has done all my recent tanning. Get them tanned and make stuff yourself. Here are some mitts I made last year

Bigmountainrider, those look awesome! What did you use for the leather, and did you find a pattern, or design it yourself? Any resources you used to learn?

I would love to hear more about these too. How many coyotes did you use? Any tips for sewing them together. I'd really like to try something like this myself.

So heres the thread from when I made them:
http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=201808

I used 2 Coyotes, 1 Sheared lamb skin, and some scrap Buck skin leather I bought at Halford hides when I got the lamb skin. I got the pattern from the Internet, just copied and traced my hand. Then made a working copy with old denim and a stapler. I hand stiched the Coyote with leather needles and awl metioned in the post. Used synthetic sinew as thread. Machine stiched the lamb liners. The only thing that sucks about these projects is the cost, all the labour is yours out of love. But 2 coyotes tanned is $200, The Sheared Lamb skin was $100, I'm sure Halfords gave me the Leather, The fabricating supplies are nominal. Still its a $300 pair of mitts.... that I wear on the quad or ice fishing, any chance I get. If anyone wants some advise, or things i did right and wrong PM me.
