Default What would/could you do?

As a resident trapper on private land, with written permission, if you come across someone else trap what can you do? I verified with land owner and land renter to ensure no other permission was given.. Trap was set on a lake edge. I heard that the only ones who can file a complaint are the land owner/renter. Yet if someone's dog got in the trap (330), guess who would have been in trouble...

Have the landowner pull the trap and leave a note for whoever to come and claim it

Is the lake entirely on private land or is it "shared"?

You are right. The landowner should make the complaint. Be sure to mark your traps somehow that they can be identified in case your traps start disappearing.
When I was snaring I even stamped an identifying mark on my snare locks.

A few years ago I had a trap thief take every animal and trap on a 1/2 mile line. He walked in on my trail and took everything. He dropped a little receipt on my trail and I went to F&W and the RCMP with my evidence. They could not do anything because I did not have my traps marked. This person was eventually charged with poaching and is well known locally for his wildlife infractions.

Take pictures of the illegal sets if you can and gps them. Then a person can maybe pattern the offender and where he is accessing from.

Actually on ponds edge, adjacent to lake. They were accessing it by going through (driving in pickup) the farmers field. This is not the first time these folks have done this (on other peoples land as well). And no, they did NOT get their traps back. I met them, and asked to see a copy of their trappers licence and permission forms...which they did not have. They had to drive past my house, usually after 10:30pm to check them... ...dead end road...
