Default Halfords snares

Hey guys,
Putting out my deer scraps and muskrat carcasses for bait tomorrow. I was wondering what you would recommend for snares if I were to buy them from Halfords? I'm snaring coyotes and would like to buy ready to use snares, I will make my own in the future.

Thank you for the suggestions,

I guess I'm looking more for suggestions on what snares to use than where to buy from.
Maybe i'll give him a call and he can answer me?

i'll bet his wife knows more about snares/snaring than anyone at halfords, and probably most of the people on this forum.

If you're in central alberta like i am, I would suggest 5ft 3/32 or 5/64 1x19 cable w/ lightning locks, kill springs, triggers, support collar and 265lb breakaways (crimped). Use 9 gauge supports or coat hangers

Caveat: i am by no means a veteran snare man...i have been snaring for 3 weeks....in that time I have caught 20 coyotes and a fox

Phone the snare shop they are way cheaper and make good snares, 5/64 1 by 19 cable toothed cam lock kill spring and trigger i believe they make theirs with a 285 lb bad, i put a 3/32 ferrule on them and use # 11 wire for supports, i get them 10 ft long.

X3 My preference is a six foot 1/16 1x19 snare on a six foot extension using kill spring and trigger with a hand filed camlock. I bought snares last year and built my own this year. I've found a hand filed lock to be much better than the toothed camlock. Marilyn is very helpful.

If you HAVE to buy at Halford's, I'd get this:

Cable cutters:

Snare support wire (Don't forget pliers to cut it with):

Snares:

Spring setter:

EXTENSIONS

Make your own 6' extensions by hammering the ferrules closed on an anvil or heavy piece of steel. It's relatively quick, easy and a lot cheaper than buying them made. If you want extensions that are coyote specific get 5/64" cable and the appropriate sized ferrules/washers, and the coyote swivels.

Cable (Reusable so get 3/32" in case you ever want to trap wolves):

Ferrules (double and single):

https://www.halfordsmailorder.com/eS..._ACFERRULE332S

Swivels:

Washers for between swivel and single ferrule:

When I'm setting snares I put everything in a 1 gallon pail and carry it around that way because I don't like having cables hanging off of me.

I think that everything is there that you need. As mentioned in previous posts, there may be better prices to be had even with shipping, etc.
