Default Fishing on the Smokey Rivsr

Does anyone fish on the Smokey south of Grande Prairie? Just wondering if it is worth trying.

The further south you go towards Grand Cache the river is worth fishing. I think the river doesn't open until June 1. Trout and grayling and RM whitefish. Caught some nice bulls closer to Grande Cache. Be bear smart.

Definitely worth a try. I've been twice and it has been pretty decent. I think an average of 10-12 grayling per day (per person). I've heard stories of people catching 70-80 in a day but I haven't been that lucky. Like Red Bullets said, wait until June 1st at least. Best fishing would probably be early to mid August when the water gets a bit warmer though.

Where Sheep Creek empties into the Smoky River, I've had fun fishing for grayling along the banks of the Smoky near the campsite. Sheep Creek itself is an amazing bull trout stream. But late August and September are the prime months, when the water clears up and becomes lower. The Smoky is a beautiful River, especially around Grande Cache. I'd like to hear more accounts of fishing in the Sulphur River, which enters the Smoky at Sulphur Gates.
