Default SKS 7.62x39 for coyotes?

I have a dedicated yote rifle in 22-250 but recently I purchased an SKS with a 4x32 scope on the cheap. It has a folding stock and I was thinking about making a shoulder harness so I could carry the rifle straight up and down on my back. It would be allot more convenient/comfortable for me particularly when traveling on my sled.

I've never fired one but I know that the ballistics, etc is similar to a 30-30 so it's basically a short range rifle compared to my 22-250. I plan on sighting it in for a 200 yd zero but I was wondering, will this rifle/ammo just frustrate me if I use it for hunting yotes or is it accurate enough out to 200 yds? I'm not concerned with the size of the hole left on the pelt.

So what do you think? Use it for a yote rifle or just plink with it and use the 22-250 fulltime?

I dont have one personally but a close friend does and he uses it alot on coyotes and has been very succesful. It seems to very accurate out to 200 yards even with the iron sights. At close range the FMJ spitzers wont have the same power as the round lead 30-30 but the pay off is in the higher energy at 200 yards+ over something like the 30-30

With the 4x scope on my CZ858 I am actually quite impressed with accuracy of 7.62x39 ammo out to 300 yards.
I also have the SKS but never bothered with a scope on it.
I have been on the range popping clay pigeons at 300 yards and have had people shooting fancy rifles come over and ask what the heck I'm shooting....and I'm no Daniel Boone!

I too have an SKS that I dropped into a FiberForce stock. I purchased 1100 rounds of FMJ ammo with it. Basically for me, I shoot inanimate object with it, pumpkins, milk bottles, etc. Mine is not a bad shooter, although I'll make no 200 yd claims, never tried it that far. The thing about SKS's is that it can go either way, you can get a good one or a not so good one. Problem is that you can't tell when you pick yours off the rack. Mine came from the Shooting Edge.

Oh, another thing is that this military ammo uses corrosive primers. You need to clean the gun thoroughly after firing just a few rounds to avoid corrosion.

It is wicked fun on called coyotes or over bait and if you use the FMJ ammunition on them there shouldn't be much pelt dammage if that is a concern for you.
Use and enjoy.
