Default Alaska government culls 94 Brown Bears

Apparently, the do things differently than the Provincial government. I guess they could have issued tags for them though instead.

No, this is not an opportunity for more tags.

It was done during calving season, on calving grounds. That’s not where you want a bunch of people hunting, the disturbance would be as bad as the bears.

Hope it works.

Default grizz

Wow, at least one state has good game management. Just as mentioned we could send a few of our biologists to Alaska for supplemental training. We hunters should start a go-fund-me for their air fair.

It would be interesting to see how much calf predation by bears (both black and grizzly) are impacting caribou numbers here. Sure, we target wolves, which are a factor, but what about bears?

May be a line worth following, as long as our caribou are deemed worth keeping (there is some debate about that!)

Hah go for it. Watch them switch gears into bear lover catch phrase 101 “keystone species” “intact ecosystem” “percent of historical range” blah blah blah.

Remember when AEP was caught releasing problem g-bears on lambing territory by willmore/kakwa? Same time the bios wanted all sheep on draw.

It’s all smoke and mirrors to keep the politicians and ecoterrorists happy or at least quiet. There is no science to Albertas fish and wildlife management

bears are huge predators of moose and elk calves so id imagine caribou would be no different if that's what they have to prey on. Good for them, Id imagine peta is freaking out.

While hunting one of our primary "Save the caribou" areas near Little Smokey noticed large number of grizz tracks. Yes grizz like to eat caribou calves, nice change from all them moose calves.

When one grizz in Alaska ate 40 moose calves one spring, they should not harm the moose population. Probably why they grow alittle bigger and fatter, then get to be called a Brown bear.

Calving is May - June, so hunt them in the fall. The bears will not be there during calving.

That’s not how it works

Other bears move in and fill empty territory, especially territory with a good supply of calves. Same goes for any other predator, they fill the available space. It has to be done where and when the calves are on the ground.

Default Culling 94 brown bears

I have hunted that area twice for brown bears. I did not even see a single one on the first hunt although a hunter from Iowa saw 10 in 5 days and shot one on that 5th day and flew home to combine corn.

I was encouraged to return and saw a little critter on the first day and killed a big boar on the second day.

I would have gone into a rage if I had found out that they had just killed 94 bears before my expensive hunt was about to start.
