Default 30.06 ammo

Just shooting your everyday 30.06 rifile and just wondering what type of lead guys are shooting through their 30.06. The last two years I've been shooting Winchester Ballistict Silvertips 150's and 180's the gun seems to like it and a box is $35. Any input on what type of ammo maybe a guy should try?

Default 30 06

The only shells my 06 has ever had throught it are Federal premium 165g serria gameking i have killed Moose Elk and deer with them they have never failed me and i would never concider any other shells but thats me you need to use what works for you and what you have confidense in $35 is the least of your worries add up what you spend in a year don't cheap out on the final process of the hunt.

Just my 2 cents

Default 30-06 Ammo

My 30-06 shoots the Hornaday Light Mag (150gr) loads to perfection. Over the summer I've shot several different loads and found the Hornaday to shoot best. The light mags are leaving the muzzle at 3100fps so they shoot about as flat as you can get with a factory load and I'll take the 2-inch group at 200-yards any day of the week. They might not shoot that great out of a shorter barrel though.

If your rifle shoots the silvertips well i would not change a thing if deer is your main quarry. If elk and moose are on the menu i would try nosler partition in 180. I'm not sure, because i only handload, but i think federal offers it in their premium line.Being that you shoot and 06 there is no shortage of ammo available.Shoot what your gun likes and don't look back.

Ammo that shoots accuratley in your rifle.
Hate to break it to you, but you are the only one who will determine what shoots well in your rifle.

It works like this:
Buy a box of one brand and weight, buy another box of a diffrent brand and weight, then buy a third fourth and maybe even a sixth seventh or eighth box as necessary, shoot all the diffrent brands and weights through your rifle till you find one that groups great in your rifle.
Then go back and buy as many boxes of that brand and lot# as you can find, then get on with it.

Of course, it costs time and money. What does'nt if you intend to do it right?

Dick284 is right. That's the only way to go.
BTW my 30.06 likes the 150 gr Nosler ballistic tip. Only used for deer. Not good for bigger game, as it disintegrates.
Tried Dick's method for my new 300 WinMag and found that it likes 180 gr Norma plastic point. I have no experience with this bullet, so I guess I will have to see how it behaves on big game. Good luck.

I shoot handloads in mine 150gr Nosler accubond, and 180gr Hornady Interlock. Seems to be doing real well with those.
