One thing I can't understand is why many conservatives believe that disliking Trump automatically makes one a "Lib". I am a card carrying conservative and absolutely cannot stand the man.

The fundamental differences between left-wing and right-wing ideologies center around the the rights of individuals vs. the power of the government. Left-wing beliefs are liberal in that they believe society is best served with an expanded role for the government. People on the right believe that the best outcome for society is achieved when individual rights and civil liberties are paramount and the role — and especially the power — of the government is minimized.

The republican party is considered right and of course Trump is their leader. The left is, generally speaking, those that oppose him. They are considered politically liberal much like our Liberal Party is considered liberal but not a direct reference. You can actually hate the Liberal Party and still be a liberal.

I should add that one could be politically liberal and support the Conservative Party as well. The majority of people identify somewhere in the middle.

Having a graduate degree in a related area, I’m fairly familiar with the political spectrum and political theory. I’m more interested in the cult-like following of someone who is clearly not a conservative at heart.

Did you read the article? It says that face coverings (like scarves) could reduce the spread of particles ..... which, of course, is not disputed.

For Trump to say, and see quote above "better" is the issue.

Did you read that part, or jump right into his defense so quickly that you missed the point ....?

If thicker scarves are better - then we don't need N95 masks at all and probably don't have a global issue with N95 masks do we? We can just knit all the health care workers some scarves ..... because they are better right?

Seriously - this is not worth disputing.

My main point is, and continues to be, is IF you want to be president and IF you take the job then you MUST choose your words carefully so what YOU say is accurate, and, in this point precise.

That takes intelligence.

- The intelligence to know what you are talking about;
- The intelligence to defer questions to those around you who are more qualified to answer;
- The intelligence to understand and accept that there ARE people who ARE smarter than you;
- and the intelligence to exercise and control yourself, and your own ego, so that you are not the kid at the front of the class with all the smart answers and great ideas "nobody else" has thought of except you.

That's my point with this guy. He has no self control, is a narcissist, a compulsive liar and isn't that bright.

We have opposing opinions, which is cool. That's my perspective.

Me too- a card carrying conservative, both provincial and federal. You may not love Trump but as I mentioned a thousand times before, he wAs the best choice out of what the US had to offer at that time. I would rather have him running Canada than our village idiot and his cronies. After all, the best description of him was given by the Indian journalist after his visit to India.

Trump and Trudeau both screwed up, they both sent supplies to China, so, that's a wash. Trump it would appear screwed up far worse, by not seeking out and/ or listening to some people who understand what a virus actually can do. Not that any western country really has a lot of experience with a situation like this, there were preparatory things both could have done, neither did, it was over in China, far, far away. 98% of Cdn and American citizens likely thought much the same. Cdn's for some naive reason, thought the US would have our back if the pandemic came over here, lesson now learned. Is one leader really any better than the other? Nope. Trudope was already well into the process of bankrupting this country, the US was in much the same process by way of creating false wealth in a number of ways. Good portion of that disappeared in the last while, some of it will recover, some won't for quite a while.
They both just got a wakeup call, be interesting to see how all this plays out. The first act is in play, Trudope is getting help from China, maybe even from Russia, as the old former southern ally won't help us.
Will Trudope start steering Canada away from dependence on the US? I can't blame the US for the policies they just adopted, in many ways we should be as well, we'll see what happens, maybe the US did us a favour in the long run. With Trudope, I'm inclined to think he won't do what needs doing. Trump is definitely not the sharpest, but, he certainly is entertaining, and likely a better drama teacher than Trudope.

Sure... However had he taken the > $400,000,000 he got from his father and bought some mutual funds he’d be a lot further ahead. The guy bankrupted a CASINO ffs.

This guy is such a tool it's unblvbl.

I would offer, with respect to feminism globally, that funding and donations to that cause can wait a bit until we figure this more immediately pressing little matter of the Covid crisis out first. Seems like bad timing and use of our limited and strained financial resources we have right now.

As far as the Covid help to other countries, yeah, I can see that ..... we do have some obligation to help globally if we expect other countries to reciprocate AND, after all it is the right thing to do (as long as we take care of prioritizing the needs of Canadians first).

The feminism one, and that kind of money, just makes me face palm.

I am Crestfallen how he could have thought that this was a good idea at this time, like what was running through this guys head? omg.

Thank you, Mr. President. Ebony Bowden from the New York Post. A few hours ago, mayor De Blasio, the Mayer of New York, said that New Yorkers leaving their hearts to wear masks, they should also wear masks when they’re with other people. Are you considering that kind of recommendation on a federal level? And if you are, how would you prevent a rush on N95 masks?
Donald Trump: (01:24:40)
Well, I think they’re going to be coming out with regulations on that and if people want to abide by them, frankly, I don’t think they’ll be mandatory because some people don’t want to do that. But if people want… As an example on the masks, if people wanted to wear them, they can. If people wanted to use scarves, which they have, many people have them, they can. In many cases the scarf is better. It’s thicker. Depending on the material, it’s thicker. But they could do that if they want. Now a recommendation’s coming out. We’ll see what that recommendation is. [crosstalk 01:25:14] But I will say this, they can pretty much decide for themselves right now.

Cheers

I like Trudeau so much I will offer to pay for a one way ticket to the UK to go visit PM Boris Johnson in the hospital. As token of my appreciation for all he has done for our country and for my family!!! I will even pay for a first class ticket to keep him within the allowable social distance so he doesn’t catch Covid-19 from anyone else on the plane.

I actually watched that part of the interview, he was comparing scarves to the cotton masks that some people are wearing, not to the N95 masks.

Trump goes on a fact finding visit to Israel.

While he is on a tour of Jerusalem he suffers a major heart attack and dies !!

The Undertaker tells the American diplomats accompanying him “ You can fly him home to America for $50000, or you can bury him here, In the Holy land for just $100.

The American diplomats go into the corner for awhile to discuss.

When they return they tell the Undertaker that they would like to have the body transported home to America

The Undertaker is puzzled and asks “ Why would your spend $50000 to fly him home, when it would be wonderful to have him buried here, in the Holy land for $100 “

The Diplomats reply “ A long time ago a man died here, he was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. We just can’t take that chance “

When I was in Arizona in early March I saw an election-themed bumper sticker that said “Any Functioning Adult 2020.” Enjoyed a chuckle at that.

What EVIDENCE suggests Trump was speaking about and/or comparing a scarf to a cloth mask?

The question from the reporter itself was specific to 95 masks and there is absolutely no mention, from either the reporter or the president, or context to suggest a cloth mask not one word whatsoever ........... ????

I find it so stunning how many people jump in to defend, manipulate, mislead and fabricate facts to cover up the utter stupidity and reckless ignorance Trump exhibits everyday and seemly every time he opens his lying mouth.

Honestly, I don't care ....... question withdrawn ..... drink whatever juice you want and believe what you want ..... I respect your decision to do so, but I will not be having any juice today thank-you.

Surgeon General Jerome Adams: (32:14)
It is critical and the president mentioned this, the vice president mentioned this. It’s critical to emphasize that maintaining six feet of social distancing remains key to slowing the spread of the virus, but CDC is additionally advising the use of simple cloth coverings to slow the spread of the virus and to help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical master N95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders as recommended by the current CDC guidance. As the president also mentioned, cloth face covering fashioned from household items are made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional voluntary public health measure. This recommendation compliments and does not replace the president’s coronavirus guidelines for America 30 days to slow the spread, which remains the cornerstone of our national effort to slow the spread of the virus.
Surgeon General Jerome Adams: (33:15)
CDC is always, always looking at the data. We’ve told you that from the beginning. Dr. Burke said that every single press conference, we’re looking at the data, we’re evolving our recommendations, and new recommendations will come as the evidence dictates. I want to say, if you do choose to wear a face mask, very important, wash your hands first because you don’t want to put on a face covering with a dirty hand. Do not touch your face while you are wearing the face covering because again, you could take materials from the surface, germs from the surface, and bring it to your face. If you choose to wear a face covering, please, please leave the N95 masks, the medical supplies, for the medical professionals, healthcare workers and frontline workers. Know that this is not a substitute for social distancing.
Surgeon General Jerome Adams: (34:04)
Remember, this is all about me protecting you and you protecting me. This is about us coming together as communities and if people voluntarily choose to wear a face covering, they’re wearing it to protect their neighbors from getting the coronavirus because again, they could have asymptomatic spread. Mr. President, thank you very much for that. Appreciate the opportunity to come.

Honestly, I don't care ....... question withdrawn ..... drink whatever juice you want and believe what you want ..... I respect your decision to do so, but I will not be having any juice today thank-you.

I know I shouldn’t but Here goes... obviously we disagree and that won’t change. Not going to argue it not going to bother try and defend it. The 2 things I have to say about tour last post are;

1. It’s pretty ironic you find it so stunning that people jump to defend him while from the other side of the isle it doesn’t matter what the guy says or does you are so fast to criticize and demonize the man. So thats effectively a wash.

2. Obviously you do care because despite saying you don’t want to drink any of the juice you keep responding to other comments made here. If you try ely didn’t care you would stop replying period!

Again we agree to disagree, that’s your right and I’m fine with that. From my own personal experience I think you are way off base on MANY but NOT ALL of your theories about the guy but I’m not going to try and change your beliefs. That’s because it would be a colossal waste of my time and would just end in an impasse. . Those that don’t like him will never like him. Hell he could find a cure for cancer, aids and end world hunger and there would still be those someone who would rush to trash him (oh and that goes for ANY politician not just Trump).

Have a good COVID FREE day sir!

Thank you for that Stringer, nice to see a source posted and your point substantiated.

The press conference was roughly 2 hours in length.

The excerpt you present here as evidence happened roughly 32 minutes in. (see time stamp)

There was quite a bit covered over the next hour and many other issues discussed and different questions answered.

The reporter asked trump this question almost 80 minutes AFTER the piece you posted at roughly 1 hour 50 minutes into the press conference. (see time stamp)

That's a huge stretch to me. I know you can edit anything to make it sound like anything you want it to, but those time stamps illustrate my perspective.
