Self Defense
So I was reading this article I found on MSN Sympatico:
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canad...Udl?li=AAggNb9
Which was interesting in and of itself.
I found the following link on self defense in Canada buried in the article VERY interesting and well worth a read.
https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/...-rlddp/p5.html
Thought I'd pass it along to anybody else interested in reading the law about self defense in Canada.

CptnBlue63,
It is a most strange world. The longer I am in it, the more I believe that things happen for a reason.
I am involved in representing someone who is facing some very serious charges.
I was not aware of this GOC publication, which is unbelievably helpful.
Many thanks.

No worries man. I have a best friend, since day 1 kindergarten, who is also a lawyer. He didn't sell his soul to the Devil either.
It was a 5 year lease with a heavy buyout and penalties for over mileage he said.

I find it interesting per the article, that Canada only has 2.2 million gun owners and 2.6 million background checks were performed in March alone in the USA. Add in that each background check can include more than one firearm means in 1 month we added more guns than there are gun owners in all of Canada. Crazy! FWIW I bought a firearm in March and it was a hunting rifle. I have the 2 handguns I need.

And, if I'm not mistaken, many can still purchase firearms without background checks at shows and privately can't they?
Yeah .... crazy

Guys with lots of time need to read" No More Mr. Nice Guy" by Barry Holland previous military MP and consultant. His book outlines very well when to shoot, when not to to protect yourself/family within the laws in Canada. Given to me by a Director of local shooting range.

Yes and no. If you are a private collector at a gun show yes you can buy/sell without background checks but if you are a dealer who goes to gun shows they are still required to comply with background check requirements. As far as private individuals no background checks are required. Many do however sell between private individuals and then go to an FFL for the transfer, OR will only sell to someone who has a CCW since you have to get fingerprinted and go through a background check and training to get that license.(Not all states require the training portion).

I'm very pleased that could help you!
There's always a lot of talk on here, and other related forums, regarding what you can and can't do to defend yourself so when I ran across this article, I thought it best to have some actual legal knowledge as compared to guessing. Figured I wasn't the only one who would appreciate some definitive answers to what you can and can't do.

It's going to vary a lot state to state. When my wife was still living in north Idaho she bought a Marlin 30/30 at a garage sale. There was no checks of any kind unless she paid via check. I'm pretty sure she paid cash LOL
While I was still looking at emigrating to North Idaho I checked out the gun laws and saw an article pertaining to CC. The one line stuck in my brain, "The hardest thing about getting a permit to carry a concealed firearm in north Idaho is coming up with the $50 fee"
They actually have open carry too which doesn't require a permit....providing you fit into the allowed group:

Wow! LOL
