Default 300 wsm velocity

I had recently purchased a new sako a7 - 300 wsm and loaded some 180gr ballistic tips over RL-17. I got some results from my chrono showing the velocity between 3070-3080 fps. Was wondering what everyone else is getting out of this cartridge ?

Im shooting 168gr ballistic tips over 66.5 gr of H4350. Chrony says spread from 3190 to 3203. I think im right on the verge of being to hot. Problem is as soon as i back off the grouping opens up over an inch, this load produces on average 0.65 in. This is out of a remington 700 with a 26 in tube.

I just found some RL 17 to try. Hope to get out in a week or 2.

Default 300wsm velocities

I am sending a 180 gr nosler AB at 2950 fps out of my win model 70. Started seeing pressure at 3000! Using federal brass and primers and IMR 4831 IIRC! Getting very good accuracy with this load!

That sounds pretty good.

I had an a7 prior to my x-bolt, i think my 180's were clocking around 2850 with IMR 4350. I've only shot 168 ttsx's out of my x-bolt, and I'm seeing around the same speeds as your 180's, again I'm running IMR 4350.

Just curious as to what you were expecting?

Default 300wsm

The results were actually higher then expected. I've noted that the primers were a bit flattened but I also see that in my 270 wsm.

Flattened means too much pressure.

I am getting 3100 out of my A7 using 168gr TTSX and RL17 66 grains. Not maxed out but the E.S. is extremely low.

Reloader 17 seems to give higher velocities than many powders and I think it is a great fit with the WSM family of cartridges.

I was working on a load for the Hornady 208 grain Amax for a 300 WSM. I started with H4350 and while accuracy was good, velocity was slower than I was hoping for. I tried Reloader 17 and have been very happy. My rifle is a Tikka T3 and with 63.5 grains of RL17, Federal 210 primers, and the Amax right at the lands, I am getting just under 2,900 FPS and single digit ES. Groups are averaging right around .4 inches (some better, some worse) and holding .5 MOA out to 600 yards. No pressure signs and better performance than any other load I have tried.

The downside to Reloader 17 is that is seems to be more temperature sensitive than temp-stable powders.
