New addition to the safe
My newest addition to the safe family a Remington 700 SPS Tactical 16.5" in .308 win. I wanted to buy a 700 police but by the time I argued myself into it that was no longer an option unless I wanted to wait, which i did not. Drove out to Bashaw to look their selection over and thought this one was weird enough to warrant a try, after sighting it in and breaking the barrel in yesterday I can honestly say I am very happy with it, it may not be a 1000 yards capable but I am hoping to try it out at 500 yards when I can find room to do that in.

I bet the muzzle blast from that rig has got to be an eye watering experience!
Try some H335, and 125gr. bullets, it will a great addition to your Canada Day fireworks!
16.5" bbl, what are you gonna do with a tube like that, snipe in a willow thicket?
Although its a nice rifle, I'm not sure the reasoning on the barrel length!
Post some groups, and file a range report would ya.

Pretty awesome rifle! If I couldn't get my Ruger Gunsite I was going to look into tracking one of these down.

What twist is barrel? A fast twist in a short barrel would be fairly entertaining.

It is a 1 in 10 twist.
Only got to shoot 20 rounds yesterday and most of those were for the barrel break in and scope alignment so I am not to sure of its full potential as of yet. But with factory Hornady loads and off of a bi-pod and my shoulder, as I do not own a sled or even bags, it showed very good promise. With construction at the outdoor range for the next week or two I am not sure when I will be able to go again but when I do I will make a full report with pictures, unless I really suck that day because in that case it never happened.
As for what I am going to shoot with it, it will be mostly paper as I do not currently hunt. I am having a hard enough time finding a place to shoot gophers let alone anything larger. Before the lectures start, yes I am beyond polite when talking to land owners asking for permission but I always get the No answer with some excuse. I am starting to think it is me. As far as crown land goes, lets say I do not have complete faith in every hunter to be as careful as they should be and since I am not from Alberta originally I do not wish to step on any ones toes and go into "their" traditional area.

1. Keep asking.....we've all been turned down before as well, try asking before the season starts.
2. I rarely encounter other people on the crown land I hunt, chances of being shot are less than easily accessed farmland amongst the road warriors IMO.
3. there is a whack of crown land to hunt on.
4. Its crown land not anyone's "traditional" land, early bird gets the worm/first come first served rules apply.
Good luck.

I think the loss per inch is exaggerated somewhat. From what I have read it is probably less than 5% vs. a 24" bbl. for a .308.

Now just if that was the case, I've had people drive around me in their pickup while sitting down a cut line and bomb up and down on there quads. If someone wants to go there those rules sadly do not apply.

Actually I never even noticed it. I was contemplating putting a muzzle break on it though just so I could get it over the 17 inch mark, so maybe in the future the people shooting beside me will feel it.

Not a custom gun that I know of. The Remington box had the full description of what it was on it. I got it out at Bashaw Sports which is a great little shop with very helpful staff.
