Looks like an otter in fresh snow to me. Is there any drag marks or other photo of spacing and gait?

Nope no drag marks from a tail of course the snow right there is only about an inch deep
Hydro the scan disc cards are about 1 x1 1/4
Does kinda look like an otter tho fairly large one.? As for spacing or gait will see if i can get a pick tomorrow if the snow isnt gone

It looks like 5 toes with claws to me. Given the size and location I'm going to say otter as well, although I've never seen any. Could it be a mink track that melted in the sun making it look bigger though?

I think that seeing a series of tracks would make it easier to tell.

I hadn't even thought about that. Resident trappers can't trap them anyway.

I had a bi-catch mink on a muskrat float set in October and I went through the process of reporting it to F&W. It was relatively painless with writing out a statement and swearing that it was accidental. I'm thinking that a class A critter, caught by a Resident trapper, during a closed season could have a little more involved to it. Yeah, don't catch it.

Dave , it seems to depend which officer you get . Caught this otter accidentally in a beaver set and followed all the rules and took him in to get registered as accidental catch . Officer #1 says no problem , fills out paperwork and on my way with otter in tow . Talking to officer #1 a week later and he tells me that officer #2 from another district has seen my catch on a facebook post and wants me charged and catch seized .. go figure . Glad I ran into officer #1.
