Default What can't a 22 do?

So talking with my grandfather the other day, he told me back in the 50s he was a doctor on a res in northerb alberta. Anyways he said that one day some of the natives shot and killed a grizzly with a 22. That got me thinking, i personally have seen Bison, cattle and a few other large animals taken by a 22. What animals have you seen taken with a 22?

The .22 can kill a lot of things but cannot legally be used for killing lots of things as well!

My dad said that back where he lived guys used to kill the cows with them but the barrel was touching the cows head. just about anything out there could be taken with a .22 either through ridiculasly good shot placement or using a bucket of bullets.

The wee one can do a lot, not the calibre of choice for somethings both from a legal perspective and game that may eat you

But in a pinch it's more effective than a punch in the nose

I've shot more Kangaroos with a .22LR than I have anything else.
Not that there are many around these parts

I knew a trapper that always shot his moose with a 22. He would place a shot at closer range into lungs, leave it for an hour to bleed out then come back and dress it out.

I have heard similar many times with the exception of leaving it part. I think that once one makes the decision to kill, there is some sort of obligation to be there for death.

Yep a .22 will but I am glad it is not legal.

For me, I have seen road injured horses cows and deer.

Until i got a 22 mag i always used a 22 lr for butchering beef. Never had a problem and they drop like a ton of bricks when shot in the brain.

What won't a .22 do? I'll tell ya what....it won't kill a mastadon. But if there was one alive I'll bet it could although I'd prefer to use a bow

There is a huge difference between what has be done with a 22lr, and what should be attempted with a 22lr.

Cat, you'd be surprised.
This Sam Yang http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Dragon...Air_Rifle/2500
has 238 ft/lbs energy at the muzzle...about 100 more than a HV .22LR
I've seen moose taken with these things.

That ain't your Slavia .177 or .22 crack barrel however, which is what people think for the most part.

Didn't say it was...but check out Crosman's website (an airgun name even more mainstream than Slavia)...they have a whole range now of big bore airguns.
Just pointing out the fact that they aren't the 'toys' a lot of people around here will still think they are.

I am well aware, but the fact remains that most people don't take them seriously even though they may be aware, because they do not have to, they can use a cartridge rifle in most cases.
