The K31 is a milsurp beyond the Comm block offerings. I'd have suggested a Garand, but that's a bit spendy these days.

I think the OP is a bit more into getting some powder burnt, than perfecting his still hunting techniques. Every body to their own beer parlour as my dad used to say.

I'm a bowhunter through and through, and I always will be.
I like guns for what they are. Always wanted a Nagant sniper since watching Enemey at the Gates as a child.
Doubt I'll hunt with a rifle to be honest. Shotgun for birds though.

Check out the K31, you'll get over the Comm block stuff when you do.

I have run one with the sling 'n' irons all the way out to 1K, tremendous Swiss made rifles!

What makes the K31 better than the Nagant. I shot a Nagant in Poland, and was instantly hooked. Nice powerful cartridge.
Cheap ammo, too.

The K31 has a better bolt system, better sights, and a bit more ergonomically acceptable stock .
I have also shot quite a few Nagants, but thhe K31 is a far more accurate rifle.

I got mine back in 6weeks for both Pal and RPal. A friend took the course at the same time and waited over 4 months.

I'm pretty sure if I had not had rung them, then I'd have been waiting a long time..
I need to find a Mosin Nagant for a good price. Good for plinking, and perfect for deer/elk under 100 yards.
Very powerful cartridge, but accuracy can be an issue with some.

Oh boy. You actually went through all of this trouble and waiting time and stressed yourself this much, and the outcome is a Mosin Nagant? I think that I may pee my pants in laughter.

I'm waiting for my RPAL, which is currently with the AB CFO. ...What number did you call to talk to them?

Well I'm a bowhunter, and spend all my money on bows, arrows, competions ect.
Milsurps are fine for guns.
Plus I was actually PAID to take the PAL/RPAL course!
So I'm actually the one laughing at you
And I didn't become particularly "stressed" either.

Call up the RCMP, then put in the extension. I cant remember it off hand.
You need to wait about 10-15 mins on hold, but they literally just finished mine off for me

Damn,I'm in the wrong line of work apparently?
Been paid to attend umpteen safety courses in my career,RPAL has never been on the list.

I don't want to sound impatient, but I'm itching to go buy a rifle. I've applied form PAL and RPAL.

I hear you DukesArcher. A buddy and I both sent our papers in at the same time and he got his 3 weeks earlier than me! Within that 3 weeks I wanted to purchase a used Winchester SXP but couldn't! Luckily that same buddy helped me out.
Anyway, mine took about 55 days or so.
Good luck!

Does anyone had a direct number to the Alberta office? The main number wouldn't even transfer me until 60 days was up. That's almost when my PAL expires So much for the 45 days the website claims.

Depends. They print them up on a schedule, and I have no idea what it is, so it could wait a week to be printed then the Canada Post gets to play with it. Should be within three weeks of when approved.

By the main number do you mean the 800-731-4000? I called them and they answered my questions or moved me over to the Alberta desk.

My pal took 14 months to come in. Called bi weekly, with no new info. They just give you the run around on the 1-800 line. If your pal doesn't come back within 3 months it's most likely because you checked yes in one of the boxes. That'll get you put in the naughty pile. Then they really look at you. I had to check yes to one box and as I said it took 14 months and they didn't even call my refferences.

I had the complete opposite happen for me. My PAL was set to expire this coming May, so being diligent I applied via their online system at the end of January to make sure there was enough time. To my surprise, five days later I had my new card in my hand... I have no idea why it was so quick. To be honest, when got the RCMP letter in the mail I though they were contacting me because there was a problem or something... but nope, 5 day turn around on my licences. Still can't believe it.

This was for a renewal, not a first time licence as was the OP's circumstance.
